yea i got the ok from my dad to go ahead and get some sub woofers, they are on their merry way to his office.  see mom does not need to kno about them and i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to get around mom hearing them (besides turning stereo down, she often drives my car) she is too dumb to look in the trunk but a friend suggested a 'kill switch', i dunno anything about that but anybody have any other ideas or would care to explain how to install a kill switch, your help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Don't worry about it. let her find out. just blame your dad. she will get over it.

why dont you just put a remote gain controll on the amp and hide it up underneath the dash or somewhere like that and just turn it down when she is gonna drive the car?

On allot of aftermarket head units with pre outs for the sub you can turn the sub off. What make and model head unit do you have? Another option would be to put a switch on the remote wire for your sub amp.

Kill switch on the remote is the best, but you could just pull the fuses in your distrobution block when you are a block from home... or wait until you get your own car...

Run a hidden kill switch. When your mom finds the subs visually, you can simply say a friend hooked you up with them but it doesn't work (see mom, no bass). No money wasted, you were just trying something out.

just tell her she will find out anyway, they always do. it's not like your smokin crack or somthing. she will get over it. or just blame you dad that will work. your mom can't be that bad that she'll flip out over a sub. oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceave.

Ok..here's my 2 cents:

Add a switch (auto zone $2.99) to your remote wire and show your mom how to use it.  And when she doesn't need the bass then she simply can just turn it off.  When you're in the car you can turn it on.  Plus it'll help if you go in the "wrong" kind of neighborhood and don't want to give it away that you got somethin in the trunk.  That way you and her are both happy and dad doesn't get blamed for anything.

Bonny, the universal solution to this is to install a kill switch, regardless of how it is used.  Go to a hardware store, autozone, whatever, and buy a toggle switch for a couple dollars.  Then, when you hook up your system you will notice that the amp will have several wires going into it.  There is the wire you run from your battery, the wire for your ground, whatever speaker wires in and out of the unit, then one more that is known as a remote wire.  This runs straight from your head unit to the amp and tells it when to turn on or off.  Simply cut that wire and put the switch in it, that way you can turn the amp on or off at will (assuming the HU is on) and therefore control the subs.

Toggle switch is what i did, sometimes I would take my grandparents around in my car and they didn't like the bass either, neither does my dad, so I just installed a switch so that way it could be turned on and off at will. I got one of the lighted led ones from Autozone, but then again my parents wouldn't care about my subs unless they are sitting in the back seat.
