Subject: which subs to buy
Date Posted: August 29, 2003 at 7:06 AM

hey guys, my choices are 4 pioneer preimiere 12 inch sybs, 2000 watts max, 1000 RMS, or, old school rock ford fosgate HX2;s, they are 2000 watts, 1000 rms, the only difference uis, the rock fords are used and the pioneers are brand new, but, the guy who owns the rockfords is one of my friends, and he never really beat on them, cause he not in to tons of bass, but, his system is hitting 162 DB in a dodge ram, i couldn;t beleive it was that loud, just not sure if the pioneers will be louder ornot, oh, and im paying about 1100 for the pioneers, and 900-1000 for the rockfords, thats canadian money,

WHICH ONES SHOULD I PICK?

thanks guys,

Personally I'd try the Rockfords over Pioneer's any day. The RF's you mentioned are the Power HX2 series. I'm running (2) 12" Punch HX2's right now and they kick unholly a$$. They're power hungry though (especially the Power HX2's). Make sure you can supply not only enough watts from the amp(s), but that you can also supply enough amperage from the alternator to the amp(s).

I've got a 130a alternator right now (stock), and my lights only dim when I'm at idle. At speed (when the alternator is producing more amperage) I really don't have a problem. But if I were running 2000 RMS (which you would want for 2 Power HX2's) instead of 1000 RMS, then even a 130a alternator would not be enough. Just something to keep in mind...

any other opinions?

the Rockfords are all around better speakers than the Pioneers, as far as that goes...the Pioneers dont really perform well in any category, and arent really meant as an SPL sub...

if given the choice, I would buy the Rockfords...

if I was given any choice, I would stay away from both...

i dunno if you guys have heard the new pioneer premieres, but holy hsit there loud, huge diffrence form last years models, people drive by my house and sh*t in my garage is shaking, and the rockfords, well, i think there really good, great sound quality, plus so much spl, i can;t even sit inside it, but, i guess im going to go with the rockfords, what other type of subs would you go with that cost around 1000-1500, excluding JL,

If you’re looking to spend $1000 on subs I would look into the Diamond Audio TDX https://www.diamondaudio.com/MobileAudio/index.cfm?page=Subwoofers# or Eclipse's Titanium Series https://www.eclipse-web.com/products/speaker/sw9100/sw9182pro.html Both subs sound and perform much better than the HX2's

I would say R.E. XXX subs.  They would blow any of the subs mentioned above totally away. www.respl.com  check em out.

I find it a little hard to believe, not saying it's not true, just hard to believe. Diamond and Eclipse are some of the "Best-of-the-Best" in the Car Audio world.

I dont know much about diamond but i do know eclipse one of the best in car audio.  I think they are up to par with R.E., Image Dynamics, Crystal Mobilesound,  Adire,  and Elemental Designs.  Those are the best of the best.

I have never heard Resonant Engineering's XXX to know how it sounds too give an opinion. But from the specs aspect the XXX doesn’t come any where close to the Eclipse TI.

you'd prolly just need two of them, they are powerful.  Make a proper box and they will sound even better.

I have too agree with Maxst the Titanium’s have a Xmas of 1.50" one way so they will travel 3 inches from front to back. Now for example the HX2 RFR3112 is 19 MM which is about 3/4 each way, so you can see that the Titanium will move as much air as (2) HX2’s. However they are not cheap you can find them on eBay for around $400 US and they are slightly more from an authorized dealer ( although they will start off by selling them for $800 or so) . And the Diamonds will run you about the same ($400-$500 after serious negotiations). As far as a dealer in your area your best bet would be to call Eclipse or Diamond and they will be able to tell you where one is located.

ummm, i know in windsor wher ei live, we do;t have one anywhere around, i would probably have to travel over to detroit to get them, now your saying 400 american each right?  would you think 3 of the titaniums will be louder than the 4 premieres, i dunno if you guys have heard the new premieres, they are amazing, i use to have 2 type R's on a kx600.1, my friend has 2 premieres on 2 sh*tty sony amps, he his smokes mine, im pretty sure he hit 145.2 in kitchener onatrio at north of the border bash, but, if you think the titaiums are better, iw ill go to the states and pick some up

if i can ahold of a digital camera, i will, i still have to start the fiberglassing though, havn;t even started that, gotta wait for the dynamat to finish, then i gotta put in a new speaker sin my car, i plan on using 2 memphis 4 channels, not sure on the speakers yet though, you guys got any suggestions for speakers, if you had unliumited money, what speakers would you put in your car, cause ican spend any amount of money on speakers, i plan on getting a pair of 6x9's, i will need a 6 1/2 component set, and 3 1/2's, and im going to cut out the panel in the back and put speakers in there, im sure what size i should do though, i plan on running the speakers off the 2 four channels(2 memphis 16-mc3004 4cahnnels) and the deck for the tweeters, i will be using a Alpine F #1 staus deck (8 volt preoputs!) so if you guys have any idea of what kind of speakers i should use, let me know

let me know soon, as i'am going out today to buy everyting, and since id on;t live in the states, i only wanna make 1 trip there,

thx

I would either go with Infinity Kappa Perfect's or MB Quart.

I didn't have unlimited cash so i went with Infinity Kappa's. If the Kappa Perfect's sound even close to them (which they should seeing as how they are supposed to be top-of-the line) then you would love them.

I've never used the MB Quart's before, but I hear they are the bomb...

Are you building a sponsored show car? or are you creating a display vehicle for a shop?

um, no, im just building a system for pleasure, basically just driving my car around, and to blow away all the other kids away in my town, it gonan be a show car, it already somewhat is, i have a 1997 neon, i have 18 inch KMC rims, eibach pro lowering kit, KYB struts, full black widow body kit, one of the few in north america, z3 limited edtion fenders, carbon fiber hood, roof scopp, diamond eurolights for the fornt, chrome taail lights, car is painted onyx black, a veilside kombat spoiler, dual borla exhaust, shave door handles and trunk light, and the body kit is like molded together to thecar, looks like one peice, , i ahve sparco seats in the fornt, i ripped out the back seat, and have 2 single seats back there, (sparco) and in the middle i have 1, 100 shot of nos, under the hood, i have a stage 3 turbokenctics turbo, intercooler, pacesetter headers, bosch platium 4 sprak plug,s, new wires, full AEM V2 cold air intake, jet performance computer chip, msd ignition, fornt and rear strut bars, HP racing big brake kit, unorthidox racing clutch, unorthidox ultra light flywheel, b&M short shifter, sparco shifter knob and sparco steering wheel, i have the roof a little bit chooped, to look more like a lambourgini style, lambo doors, crower cam shaft, JE/SRP piston set, unorthidox underdrive crank pulley, holley rex electrical fuel pump, 56 mm throttle body,

I highly doubt that the people that are crapping on the Premier subs have heard them. I have 2 of the Pioneer 2000w subs and they get down. They are also priced right, but it's your coin. Also since you are in the spending mood; why not take a look at the Juggs, HCCA(Orion), Digital Designs, and The Resonant Engineering, subs?

Go wth MB quart Q series

Diamond Audio TDXs would be well worth ur time to audition, as well as the eclipses...both are great SQ subs that like to move with some power...also, look at IDMaxs as well...and Brahmas...

LOL, if u plan on spending any amount of money, dont buy 6x9s...spend the money to get a solid 6" speaker into the decklid if thats what u are planning to do...the 6x9s sound like ass most of the time...

look at a/d/s/ PX series, Focal Utopias or PolyKevlars (I personally think the Utopias are rather dry, but some may argue here), Morel Renaissance, Diamonds high end line of speakers, or my personal favorite, the AVI Tri-Star BSMs...the AVIs are made right here in the Vancouver area, BC...amazing sounding speakers really...

by the way, a 200 AMP alternator will not be enough power to run your 4 1000Ds, let alone 4 1000Ds, ur car, and ur front stage amp setup...and Im assuming some other add on power drains...I think the 1000Ds are capable of drawing around 80A or 90A apiece, and thats almost double your alternators output right there...you may want to reconsider some things if you dont want to lose some equipment to low voltage...

If you want great SQ sub...go for the MB quart reference series 12" they arent extremely high powered...like 150rms, but they are sweet sounding.
