my friend recently purchased the mtx 6500d amp and is looking for two subs that will perform optimal at about 250wrms. any suggestions greatly appreciated

I think the MTX subs would work great with it.  I think MTX has alot of power to them and are great quality audio equipment

What kind of music does he listen to? what is he looking for , spl or sq? how much does he want to spend? what size subs is he looking for? does it have to be a few subs? or would (1) be ok?

bfog99 read the first post man your asking me questions i already told you anwsers to. we are looking for spl and sq price isnt a problem right now, two subs are wanted dont ask me why

Actually you only answered one question in your first post. Try JL Audio 12W3v2,  Kappa Perfect 10's, or 12's, Xtant X series 10's or 12's, Alpine type R 10's, JL 10W6, JL 12W6, Focal 27A, MB Quart RWC 304, Soundstream PCS-12. Unless you give more info besides "we are looking for spl and sq price isnt a problem right now" then it is hard to give anything substantial.

If you want to throw around some coin Kove Armagedon M Series M104 if you want 10's or M124 if you want 12's.  Kove is a very high quality  speaker and it will probably handle more power than the amp can put out.  The speakers are rated at 300 and 400 watts RMS respectively.
