I've 300 watts RMS subs. I powered it with 100 watts RMS. And my subs produce bad bass if I set the volume to high. What's wrong? Should I change my amp to bigger amp?

Ok first off...what kind of sub and amp are you using, secondly what about the box, sealed, ported, how much cubic ft?? Thirdly, 100 watts on a 300 watt is underpowering it quite a bit and can cause the amp to start clipping giving you the distortion you are hearing.

it's a JBL subs,.. and cheap amps. Sealed 1,44(including Vp).

Cheap amp eh, well then i would say you just named your problem. Get a decent amp that puts out what the sub wants and you should be alot happier with it. One more thing, this just one sub or two??? If the subs are 300 rms each than you need to get at least a 600 watt amp. And not a cheap one(brand wise).

Tdsteele is right. You aren't enough power to the subs. And you may not even producing the 100 watts that you think. You also have to factor in the ohm load at the amp from the subs. To give you anymore specific advice we'd need your exact make and model number of the subs and amps, and a description of how you currently have them wired together ------------- Squirrel

would you guys suggest using an amp with more than 600w? i have a theory that if you don't have to crank the amp all the way up it is not working so hard and can produce the freq with less distortion. I don't know for sure, i do more starters nad alarms than sound.

A 600 watt amp will be more than suffiecient. Look for something that is adecent amp and it doesn't have to be 600 watts, just 300 - 400 watts but it can be bridged down to 2 ohms.
