i have a friend that has two 12" and two 10" in am s10 standard cab im not sure the subs brand, but he claims to be able to bounce quarters off the hood over a foot and to be able to move water bottles a sufficient amount. im just wondering if anybody has ne ideas if its truely possible and what kind of spl it would require to do that if at all possible? ------------- Quad L Handyman services

I'd say anything is possible with the right setup. I'm not sure about the (2) 12's and (2) 10's though. It's a common rule of thumb not to mix subs due to wave cancelation. And it's hard to verify your friends setup without the specifics... make/model of the amps, subs, batteries, alternator output, wiring method, etc...
I've vibrated things off of my roof before with (2) 12" DVC's and 1000 watts, but jumping a quarter over a foot would be impressive if it is possible ------------- Squirrel

if I throw a quarter hard enough it bounces at least a foot it's hell on the paint job though hehehe :o) ------------- ...

Anything is possible; if he is your friend I would have him show you his little trick. But I would not suggest you try it on your own car. Anything you put on the paint surface is an abrasive and will scratch it.

Had a friend learn that the hard way when he decided to use a brillo pad to clean some melted-on silly string after his wedding! ((())) Swirls look cool in a black clear coat (although he wasn't as amused at his mistake!) ------------- Squirrel

yeha i cant contact him to ask him what his setup is i moved away recently, but has anybody else been able to achieve bouncing a quarter without throwing it first, like from a resting spot on your truck, hood, or roof?

Honestly I've never tried a quarter on the hood. Water bottles on the roof yes, but not quarters on the hood. I can already tell you that my setup could walk it off the side relativly easily, but could not make it bounce a foot from the mere vibrations. I would almost think that kind of SPL would cause the windows to burst at a minimum ------------- Squirrel

considering the air pressure is in the cabin, I'd find it hard to believe it bounce off the hood up to a 1'. The roof or on a car the trunk lid I can see it bouncing but onlike an inch or two if that. In the middle of a roof with no support maybe a few inches. To bounce it on the hood 1' you would need to blow out the windows then somehow have the ports hit the botton of the hood, and with max air preasure thumb the hood hard. With my old car and the angle of the ports I used to be able to take an empty 2 liter bottle with the cap on, and shot it out the port and right out the car window, landing about 15 feet from the car. Was pretty neat, but not to much impressive because it was empty and that's what the port does, though to a non audio person it is an awesome trick.

there is a movie at adireaudi.com of one brahma 15 in a ported box wit 1500 watts going to it and it is hoppin about 6 quarters pretty far off the roof of an explorer but i dont think its a foot and its sure isnt the hood either. has anyboyd seen this??

i went to watch the video, its pretty nice, but the person that i believe to be bullsh*ttin now claimed to bounce a quarter over a foot off the hood. any body believe its possible?

The more I think about it the less likely that scenereo seems possible. You would have problems getting a quarter to "jump" a foot even if you were to litterally hit the underside of the hood with your fist, and like I said before the pressure required to make that happen would more than likely burst every window in the truck. ------------- Squirrel

I'd have to go with the other guys..I seriously doubt he is getting a quarter or anything to bounce a foot off the HOOD. The underhood area is wide open there just isn't any pressure there to cause the hood to press out enough.

Not to mention that most hoods have that nice "heat shield" attached to it from the factory. Well, it also acts as a sound deadner to help minimize engine noise. Sound deadeners kill/absorb vibrations to do their job properly. Vibrations are what causes the flex that makes objects move. I'd have to see this one to believe it now... ------------- Squirrel

I agree with wvsquirrel, there is know why that the hood will move that much. You actually can even flex a hood like a roof since it is screwed on one end, latched on the other and they are normally tacked braced to cross beams. His quarter might have slid a foot til it fell of the hood but I doubt that it bouced a foot off the hood until it hit the ground. I tried to make on bounce of my friends hood and it did not work. His system breaks glass and could not bounce a quarter.
