Just a quick question here, how much power would i need to increase the sound pressure +3db? Just for example, say I had 100 watts going to a 12" sub and it had 130db. How much power would I need to increase this by to make it put out 133 db?

a 3 db increase is essentially doubling the input of something, whether it is light, electricity, or whatever you want to measure.  I would say 200 watts

I agree, this is a basic generalization of how to get more output, there are a lot more ways to get louder as well.

yes, another way to get 3 db more out of that, would be to add another 12" sub.  Because the cone area is doubled, the acoustic sensitivity is 3 db higher than that of a single cone, and doubles the power handling ability as well.

another way to get more db is to efficiently eliminate resonance in your vehicle ie. dynamat, brown bread, roofing material....

Or you could get a new high spl sub

dream it, build it, fiberglass it

I agree with muppetmaster, as a general rule, anytime you double something (power, speakers etc) you will gain about 3db

To gain 3db (theoretically, well it is proven but for mainly home audio) you would either need to double the power or double the cone area. This is not saying playing with the direction the subs face or with the gain/radio will not aslo accomlish this.

You are correct grasshopper. That is the theory I have always used.
