A message on my HU appeared one day. "Antenna" flashes on the screen in XM mode. The units are Alpine CDA-7998 / TUA-021. I'm using a Terk 03 antenna (magnetic roof mount). The XM signal never drops out as before the message appeared. No text info is available and the HU only scans saved presets. Unplugging one antenna the signal is still perfect. Unplugging the other, same result. No Text!
To test the antenna cables with a DMM, should there be a range of resistance? or plain continuity? Would a system reset accomplish anything?? Any thoughts or ideas !!!!
humm, have you tried a new antenna?, sounds like your wire may have broke from the cold or something. I don't have much experience with the xm stuff however, sorry i can't help much.
The coaxes used for the antenna are soo tiny! they don't seam to be very robust. Wouldn't enjoy putting ends on them day after day! It might be time to pick up a new Terk and see what happens. One or two other companies make XM antennas, any experience with them??
Ive installed quite a few satellite radios. When we get those, you just need to replace the antenna.
How is your antenna mounted? On the trunk, roof, glass mount? All of the newer style antenna's are 1 wire now, you just need to plug into one of the antenna ports. When installing the new antenna, be very careful not to kink the coax, it's especially easy to do with the way they package the antenna and coil it up. If your doing a trunk mount, be very careful not to bend the antenna directly over trunk seal, instead, when you get down the the trunk seal, pull up the seal a few inches and tuck the coax under the seal with a nice gradual bend, this will take a few inches but it will prevent the coax from kinking.
