I am wanting to know how difficult it would be to install a pioneer deck into a 2003 Sonoma.  I am concerned that the sonoma has a phase II wiring system and Would like to know if there are any special concerns that I should have when attempting to do this.  Also, is there a way to check and know for sure if this truck has the phase II wiring system in it?

Thanks for your help.

I don't think that your truck has the class II databus, disconnect the factory head unit, put the key in and turn to on, how mant times does the airbag light flash? If it is similar to the Sunfire / Cavalier, it may flash 7 times, if it does the airbags are not connected to the headunit and away you go, if the airbag light does not flash, then you will probably need the headunit relocation kit or one of the newer wiring kits that reroute the airbag signal. Double check in the vehicle instruction manual for any information as well.

Your truck should have a class 2 data bus system https://www.velocitymotorsport.com/install_notes/OBDII.htm It’s not as bad as you think, there's more rumor and hype then actually work involved, But if you’re a beginner I would suggest you take it in and have it done professionally. But if you want to do it yourself we are here to assist you. Are you just upgrading the head unit? Or are you adding speaker’s amps etc
