Lets say I want to power my front and rear components. I found a good 4 channel amp. Do I run my front and rear pre-amp outputs into channels 1 and two respectively, then run my front components out of 1 and rear components out of 2?

Actually if you have a 4-channel amp, you should run your front pre-outs to channels 1 and 2, and your rear pre-outs to channels 3 and 4. Then connect your front mains to channel 1 and 2 speaker outs and rear mains to 3 and 4. Be sure to keep the left pre-outs connected to the channels for the left speakrs and right to right.
