Hey guys, new to the forum after reading so much information. I couldn't find the right answer for my question so hear it goes. What is the best way to wire this setup to draw the most power from the amp safely ? I want this thing to pound. What will i end up with coming out of the amp ?
12" DVC Kaption sub, capable of 1000w peak 500w RMS.
MTX 1502 Amp Specifications
RMS Power measured at 12.5 Volts DC:
75 watts x 2 into a 4 ohm load with less than 0.05% THD+N
150 watts x 2 into a 2 ohm load with less than 0.1% THD+N
300 watts bridged into a 4 ohm load with less than 0.1% THD+N
Dynamic Power (IHF-202 standard) measured at 14.4 Volts DC:
120 watts x 2 into a 4 ohm load
212 watts x 2 into a 2 ohm load
425 watts bridged into a 4 ohm load
That Dual voice coil 4 ohm sub is not a very good match for your amp. If you wire it in parallel you will have a 2 ohm load which your amp dose not support, and if you wire it in series you will only get about 150 watts rms. either exchange the sub for the 4 ohm SVC ( single voice coil) or get an amp that will put out 500 watts rms X 1 @ 2ohms .
Unfortunately I have had the sub and amp for about a year and a half, so returns or exchanges are out. I knew it was a DVC but only ever wired up the one side.
What if I wire it in series like this ? I pulled this off of the Basic Car Audio Electronics site ?
This image shows the two 4 ohm voice coils wired in series. This will present a 8 ohm mono load to the amplifier.
That Is the only safe way to wire your sub to that amp. A series configuration will give you about 75 watts per coil or 150 watts rms total. However alot of the older MTX amps will run @ 2 ohms bridged which will give you 300 + watts rms.

Yep - it's really six of one, half-dozen of the other. You can bridge the amp into an 8-ohm load, or leave the amp in stereo mode and run each channel to one of the 4-ohm voice coils. The power output from the speaker and the load one the amp will be the same in either case.

Thanks bberman1 and Scott. I will do as you say and see how she works. I know she is loud when i had it wired to just one voicecoil so we'll see what it is like now.
