I have a chevy nova '87, i am planning on getting a 200 watt alpine cd player and getting the front speakers replaced. the back speakers... should i replace the 4" (with infinity kappa 42.5i) back there AND add 6x9s (infinity kappa 692.5i) or take the 4" out when I put in the 6x9s? and i guess i will need an amp for those 6x9s right? what amp should i get? please offer any suggestions. thanks in advance. oh yeah, i don't plan on subs because i have to put the stroller back there for my son.

Changing the speakers will give you better sound. Do so as your budget allows. Let you decide if you want more volume. If so add an amp to the rears, but try it without at first and then decide. A real good set of 6x9's with an amp driving them can give you some decent bass. Or consider a small sub/amp combo. It won't take up much room.

I would buy 2 sets of 4" kappas and get an amp and sub for better bass. If space is a minimum then you should look at subs like Kicker's 10" Solobaric L7 or JL audio's 10" W6v2. Match one of these with a good amp like JL's 500/1 and I bet it could beat a lower priced 2 woofer system. If you dont want to spend that much money you could buy something like JBL's Basspro. It's a small bandpass system which would sound ok if you didnt want too much bass. One other thing to consider if you dont want to spend alot of money is JL audio's W0 line of woofers. They perform well in small enclosures as well. I would avoid bass tubes though like ones from Bazooka. I dont think they sound that great. heres some links to all of these: Kicker: https://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-KKcc6HGPwuz/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=67600&I=2062S10L72&o=m&a=1&cc=01&avf=Y or https://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-KKcc6HGPwuz/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=67600&I=2062S10L5&o=m&a=1&cc=01&avf=Y https://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w6v2.html https://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w0.html https://www.jlaudio.com/amps/5001.html https://www.jlaudio.com/amps/e1200.html https://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-mcof6jnC5fC/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=51000&I=109BASSPRO&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N Sorry about the long post.

I ment enclosures (2 woofers, one on each side).

Here's what I would do. In my opinion, most 6.5" speakers sound better than 6x9's. So, I would replace the back speakers with 6.5's and see how that sounds. If you don't like it, then get a small amp and connect the 6.5's to that then use the head unit to push the 4's.
