Hey, i was skimming through some posts last night, and i ran across someone asking about facing their subs downwards. Someone replied, and said its good for another 3 db. Im all for another 3 db :). anyways, can you get the same results, having a sub face a corner, or up, towards the truck lid? just curious. thanks.

I don't know how true that statement was. If that was the case EVERYONE would have thier subs firing downwards. The only way I know to gain 3db is to double something. I doubt that turning your subs downwards would create an extra db. Due to the way soundwaves travel, I wouldn't doubt if you loose sound.

The statement is based on the fact that in SOME installations, down-firing can increase the effective SPL by adding cabin gain. But it is not true in all situations, and it is definately not true that you could try it with just any sub. Not all subs can handle being mounted down (or up) firing. The effects of gravity on the cone can cause the speaker to exceed Xmax and "bottom out" or be over-driven, leading to bad sound and in extreme cases to burning out voice coils. Can you get the same results otherwise? Sure. It all depends on your vehicle and the type of system you are running. Moving a sub around and trying different positions is a luxury not always available, but if you can do it you can probably find a sweet spot where you get a little cabin gain boost in SPL.

All i could see it doing on an average set up is make the vehicle buzz more, and make it seem like the bass is louder, but in reality it just sounds like ass from panels vibrating.

haha, well, rattling panels is about the last thing i need now. everything on my car rattles already. Is it true that if i were to somehow stop all that vibration, my system would sound louder? If so, im gonna spend some money ive been saving for a new amp, on some dynamat.
