I just got a Audiobahn 10" 1800-Watt Subwoofer and I need a amp for it.  It has 900w RMS, dual 4 ohm connectors and a 1cf sealed box. Its going in a 76' Trans Am. Also would it be better to run two wirers from one channel or two, I'm not sure if you change the ohms will help or not.

Is Profile clarus series, CL1200 a good amp? Also I would like to keep the cost under $450, but I dont think it will happen. I could use any help.

you could look into the jbl 1200.1 but that is 1 ohm stable and your sub can only be wired down to 2 ohms which would give you 600 watts, for a single sub needing that much power it might have been a better idea to get dual 2 ohm so you could wire it down to 1 ohm

actually the jbl 1200.1 will put out 1200 watts x 1 @ 1 or 2 ohms. it will put out 600 watts @ 4 ohms. This amp would work, but you would have to be careful with the gains. You couls also look into the Rockford Fosgate Power 1001db, Phoenix Gold Octane-R 15.0:1, jl audio 1000/1 to name a few. I would look for an amp that puts out between 600-1000 watts.

the MTX thunder 801D or Alpine's MRD-M501. The alpine outputs 500 watts into 2 ohms and the MTX outputs 800 watts into 2 ohms. I think you would be fine with the alpine because the audiobahn's power rating is probobly over rated. Alpine MRD-M501   MTX Thunder 801D

I would Recommend the JBL.. I have the 300.1 and have nothing but great success with it. I have the gains set so low and it sounds sooo good. Just make sure to run 4guage +/- wiring to it to give it that nice supply along with a cap. Dont want to loose power while driving. The Amp recommends that wiring anyways and comes with a 4guage input which is very cool

One last question, how do I wire it up so I can change the ohms?

I'm not worried about blowing the sub, I got the warrent from Curcuit City, so I just got to show the reciet and I'll get another one : )  I have to use a 4 guage, cuz I'm going to use my old amp to push my 6.9's but it work to get the connector (it goes from one 4 and connects to 8 guage wires) but use a 4 wire instind of an 8?

thanks for the help, hopefully Mon or Tues I'll get an amp and have it all hooked up.

4 guage is the way to go.. I used  a twisted pair of 4Guage when i relocated my battery to my trunk and i have seen such a great difference. Now i just have to get a better battery and alt. But i would go with 4guage.. you can get a kit for $20 on ebay.  You only have one sub right.. So i would think this might work for you. I got that diagram from my post thanks to DYohm.. Use that but wired only for one sub instead of 2.

Really that sub dosn't need 1200 watts to sound its best. Its power rating is over rated. You will only need something like the MTX amp I listed above. If you bought the JBL amp you could only wire your sub either for 2 ohms or 8 ohms and 2 ohms is going to give you 1200 watts you don't need. You need to wire your sub like this:

The JBL amp is a killer amp for decent price. I sell alot of JBL amps. Very clean and actually underrated on power. What I like about the 600 and 1200 JBL mono amps is that they make their max power @2ohms but are still 1 ohm stable. This way it gives you more options without wasting the amp. For example is the amp made its peak power at 1 ohm and your speaker combination only allowed you to get as low as 2 ohms then you are leaving half of the amps power unused.

So if I hook up my sub like customsuburb says, I can use Audiobahn's Mono-Channel Amplifier (800 watts RMS at 2ohms at one channel) and it will work more than fine, right?

I dont want to send $500 when I can send $100 less and have whut I need. I'm only 18 working at Wolly World, so I'm not rich. Otherwise, I would have two of those subs and a amp for each of them : ) and a 455 and powerglide under the hood.
