well i have 2 12" MA audio MA12D6, and i had them in a 3.0 ^ft single chamber box. i took them out and switched them around so the magnet is on the outside of the box. switched the polarity and now it is even louder than ever, which is great cause i wanted more SPL with the subs i have. anyways. my Q is, is switching polarity dangerous to the sub or to the amp. is it dangerous overtime!?

Hey bud. Just wondering what ohm load you are presenting your amp? I have the 10D6 MA's, but I have 3. Just curious. also, what kinda amp are you running? I'm tryin to get mine a little louder without spending much more cash. Thanks.

with your d6s you can wire them series/parrell for a 4ohm load Or you can wire parrell / parrell for a 1ohm load.....that helps you out posted_image

The reason XTimx's system got "louder" after inverting the sub is probably beacurse the net enclosure volume was increased.  By turning the sub around, you increased the effective enclosure size by twice the speaker's displacement.  This will allow the system to hit lower frequencies with more authority so it may seem like the SPL increased.  As long as the total volume has not now exceeded what is safe for the woofer, this is fine.  If however the enclosure is now too large, the danger is that the sub could exceed its excursion limits and fry the voice coil over time.

actually these subs are dual 6 ohm voice coils (shakes head) i really didnt like that at first. i have a RF 400s amp wired in series/parralel to get the 6ohms from the amp, rather than 1.5ohm load which is dangerous. my box is a 3.0^ft single chamber, and the trunk is that of a 91 chev cavalier z24. the trunk acted as another box, which is bigger than my actual box too. and on the sides of the box to the sides of the trunk is space. so i guess that acts as a port!the trunk carpeted too. but the thing i cant figure out. can you wire a sub to just svc, and get more power or what? would this wreck the sub in the long run!?

NEVER wire just one voice coil of a DVC sub unless you don't care how long it will last.

dyohn is also asking if by switching around the subs it gives the subs twice the space inside the box. just make sure that u don't over excede the total space limit of of subs.
