I am about to purchase 2 12" kicker L7's. I have heard that the dual 2 ohms will sound better, but then I also heard that they wont last as long as the dual 4 ohms. What should I get? I am planning on running the two subs on a kicker KX1200.1 amp. The subs are a max 1500W (per sub), and a max RMS of 750W (per sub). Would this be a good set-up for some good bass? I am not sure what subs to get the dual 2 ohms or the dual 4 ohms? If anyone can help me choose or let me know the difference about the dual 2 or 4 that would be great.

Ohms https://www.bcae1.com/ohm.htm ,2 or 4 ohms will not make a difference in sound quality. Ohms are used to match the subs to the amp. If you’re going to use the KX1200.1 it will put out 1200 watts at 1 ohm. So you should get the Dual 4 Ohm L7's and wire them in parallel https://www.audiobahninc.com/tech/wiring/parallel_parallel_dual_4.pdf to the amp for a 1 ohm load on the amp.

Would a 1ohm wiring for the amp be a little rough on the amp?

No if the amp is 1 ohm stable (which the KX1200.1 is) then you can safely run it with a 1 ohm load. But if you have a 2 ohm stable amp ,and run a 1 ohm load on it you can potentially damage the amp.

Thanks for the info!!! So I should buy the two Dual 4 Ohm subs, and the kx1200.1 and wire the amp at a 1 ohm load. (is that right?)

I am thinking about buying 2 kicker L7 12's to replace my three MTX 8000 series 10's. Do you guys think there will be any noticeable power gain going from a 1.33ohm load to a 1 ohm load? I am using a 1500w kicker certified 1200.1amp which is 1 ohm stable.

My reason for replacing is that I pound extremely hard and my 8000 series are getting worn out.

Any other good suggestions for hard pounding 12's to go in a sealed enclosure?

Thanks BBERMAN1. I will most likely go with the Eclipse aluminum's since you and Forbidden talked me into buying my AWESOME Eclipse CD 8443 Head unit and I LOVE IT!!!!

Also just bought an Alpine CDA 7995 for my truck and it sounds great with its small amps and sub. Although not as good as my ECLIPSE posted_image

And just to clarify one point: an amp running at lower ohm loads will be audibly noisier and produce more heat than if it runs with a higher ohm load. So, as bberman said (welcome back by the way) don't go below the safe stable load limit on an amp, but realize if you are looking for SQ, higher ohm loads sound better.
