Upgrading alternator wire help?

can i just run a new 4 G fused line from the alternator to the battery? my 10G is retarded small and runs tothe starter etc.. just wanna run a new line while keeping the old one. any help is great. its a 95 sunfire

Yes you can upgrade your alternator wire, it will help with the power supply too.

so a fused 4 gauge lead from the alt straight to the battery is fine? bypassing  the starter etc...?

The starter shouldn't have a wire coming directly off the alternator.  That would make no sense, as the car (and thereby the alternator) is not running when the starter is engaged.  That wire comes from the battery.  Upgrade the alt-to-battery wire to 4 ga., and there is no reason to leave the original wire there.  I don't see a need for a fuse in that wire.  Install a loom around it and tie it with zip ties if necessary.  Also upgrade the ground wires to 4 ga. or better.
