I'm trying to split the accessory wire (power antenna) on my 97 civic but it doesn't seem to be working. from what I understand it works by sending a small pulse of electricity. wlll splitting it into 3 wires affect this? I recently split it into 3 wires interrupted by switches. therefore I thought that when the circut was completed they would work. anyways take a look at the picture and let me know if I did something wrongposted_image

depending on your head unit, the power antenna may only recieve signal when the fm or am radio is on..you really should just run the remotes straight to the battery and use your switches that way...

I know but I was using the same head unit and one of the same subs before I added the switches.

your not gona wanna run that off the power antenna as it is not used for the remote. You can do a switch layout like the one you drew from the remote turn on to the head unit just fine, but from the power antenna? That sounds like it wouldn't work well to me.

i think if your idea is to put switch on your amp, better to use the 12+ instead of your power ant, and besides if you will use that POwer ant it will swithed off when you use your tape deck or cd function...just want know what is the purpose of having switch...since you have the remote function, if not then you need to use manual switch.....

thanks for the advice. I think I'll check my connections again and if nothing's wrong then I'll go with ketel22 and jgarcellano's ideas. the only problem is that I'm using 8 gauge wire to power the amps but I'm using microswitches. would it be fine to splice a smaller gauge wire like 12 onto the 8 and run that to the switches?

to use bigger cable is better but it will cost you a lot ........to modify a terminal lug (TO CUT)just to fit with the cable will reduce the handling capacity (A)...you can use cable capacity (Ampere)table so that you can use the right cable , safe and cheaper....

what is the whole point of the toggle swiches???

does your deck have both an amp turn on remote and a power antenna remote?

I noticed with my Kenwood deck when I fried the remote wire (oops!) that the power ant wire only sent a signal for a brief second when the deck turned on and off, not the radio, but this might not be true of all decks. I would understand the use of toggle switches so that he would be able to turn on and off certain amps/subs while others still play.

Check the positive wire on you cigarette lighter. If it's positive only when the key is in the "ON" or "ACC" position then you could use that wire and a relay along with this diagram to control your amps and not need a switch.

under closer inspection, one of the wires wasn't reconnected.

lol, well at least you admitted it.  Usually they just slink away and nobody knows what the hell the problem was.
