Hey guys , got a few questions. I need a sq amp that will push some mid's at about 100 wattsx2. For my sub (brahama) I want 1100-1500watts at 4ohms, or would it make a big difference in sq if i just ran 1 ohm , becuase brahamas are 2ohmx2 .... no limit on money... my budget is about 450 for the Mid amp and about 1500 for the sub amp ------------- everything stolen :(

It depends on the amp, but in general you want to run at higher impedences for SQ. Run your Brahama at 4 ohms. There are MANY amp choices, and you're sure to get a lot of different suggestions on here. Look at a Nakamichi PA-2004 for the mids. There are many other great quality amps in the 50 to 100 watt range, but I really like Nak's quality. (Or Eclipse or Zapco.) For the sub try a Memphis 16-MC2000D or a JBL BPX-1100.1. ------------- Support the12volt.com

As I understand it Arc is a high quality amp but I personally havent used them before. I am a big supporter of the Nak suggestion though. As far as sub goes, the jbl is a good amp but probally not enough power for you, mabye look at a pair of amps that are strapable like kicker. You can buy a pair in your price range and than strap em together being that they are then optimized for 4 ohm mono operation. You can also look at zappco amps, they used to make some tanks.

What size enclosure are you using? That will let us know how much power you really need for the sub. I use an Arc 1500dr on my Brahma and it seems to work just fine. That is until I reinstalled the amp and had 34 volts DC on one of the outputs. The Brahma didn't like that much, but survived. It's at Arc now getting fixed. Steven Kephart Adire Audio -------------

Nak is a great choice as is Zapco. The thing I like about Zapco for me is that there head quarters is about one hour away from where I live, and they have been very supportive in getting faulty units fixed for me in the past.

I've been using kicker 300.4 and 1200.1's for about 1.5 years and they sound great! The fans run but no thermal shutdown. Even when I am really putting monoblock to work.

I've read lots of good stuff on Arc amps and ordered one a month ago and it never arrived, so I now purchased a PA-2004 and a PA-8001, both Nakamichis, where the PA-8001 is a 1000 watt subwoofer monoblock class D amp. I had to return my HU (also a Nak) for repairs/new replacement and won't get it till 6 weeks so I really can't test my Nakamichis real well. ANyone has any opinions on the NAK PA-8001?

Be careful with that power. You would easily be able to break the Brahma with over a kilowatt and that enclosure. I'd recomend running about 800 watts. And your definitely welcome to come to the open house. It's going to be a lot of fun with live music, free food, and great company. There will be some big systems there too. I heard about one guy bringing a vehicle with 6 Tempests in it. Steven Kephart Adire Audio -------------
