Hi, I installed phone handsfree kit but it makes cracking noise in it's speaker. I draw power from fuse box. Ground in fuse box as well. Should I go directly to battery? - I have heard that alternator make a lot of noise and if you go to battery direct it will work better. I would apreciate any input. Thanks
Ground to the chassis where there is no paint on the metal. Try this and post your results.

what vehicle are you fitting too? and what sort of phone kit?
Plus, are you trying to run the phones speaker into a factory audio system (as on some Audi's and european style stereos).
We had a problem in NZ where Ford radio's accepted the speaker output of phone kits into the factory stereo. Great until you started the car up and encounted whine and ticking. It was fixed by re-earthing as Jeff has suggested and adding an in-line noise filter on the phone kits power lead.
If Jeffs suggestion hasn't fixed your problem, try adding a noise filter.
Cheers,
Glynn

Actually everything was a little bit simplier - my mute wire did not have a good connection to mute wire from tele-aid unit in my MB ML-500. I do know of integration in EU cars like VW and Audi were you can route you phone audio through factory stereo when audio mute is on. Unfortunately MB is not looking into easy (cheap) integration but rather much more expensive route of buying their own kit - very nice, but very, I mean very expensive. So to make a long story short because of bad contact of my mute wire the handsfree kit was making all kind of noises. As soon as I recrimped T-tap and got reliable connection - all the noises were gone. So ground is the most common problem in any audio install. Thanks for your input.
I forgot - handsfree kit is Ericsson HCA-20 with T-68i phone. My ML-500 has navigation MCS and Bose amp (what a pain in the A..).
a good reason why not to use those T-tap's.

I know, but I did not want to cut any wires - the car is still on warranty. It works great now.
