Hey All

I started this thread so we can check out each others systems. Who cares how janky, tore-up, un-vacuumed, or incomplete, or freakin incredible they are!

i'd post picks of my install, but i dont got a digi, but if i find one to use i'll show you, gonna have to excuse the lack of quality in the overall install, i still havent got a reply from soundstream about mounting feet for my amp, so it isnt even attached to the rack i made for it,
but nonetheless i'll find somethin to pimp my ride off with.

this could be an interesting thread ;-)

I'll post pics soon of at least one of my systems.  The suburban is being torn apart right now so i can install a RemoteStart/Alarm/KeylessEntry system.  It is the Prestige Platinum APS-786, picked it up for $99.00.  I was just in several local shops (car electronics) and they wanted 550 for a viper or a codealarm installed, and the units were 450 alone!  But I really got it for the autostart/keyless entry, the alarm is more of a bonus.  I am taking step-by-step pictures of the install so that I can do something with em, not sure what, but I do alot of this sh*t, thought I should document it.  Maybe I can use it on a resume when my kids are old enough to go to school.  My wife makes a good living and I always wanted to try my hand in a car audio shop. What is this thread about?  The ranting of madmen, you dont say!

This is my simple install in my Taurus.  Factory radio, replacement 6X8's in the OEM places, one sub, and an amp board holding a 50X4 and a mono amp.  Everything is easy to get to, and in this car the OEM amplifier and wiring is at the rear side in the trunk, so all wiring from factory and LOC's are behind the amp board.  It is made with 3/4" plywood.

The amp shelves are cut from household plastic-coated wire shelving, and angled using "shoe rack" braces found in the same department at Lowes.  Then painted and the cut ends of the shelving covered with rubber ends.  The sub box is HDP, which was available in my shed, and makes a good but heavy enclosure.  The grille comes from partsexpress.  There is a CD changer behind the board, and it is along that wall of the chassis that all grounding is done.

The inside of the car looks completely factory except for the one hole in the center of the rear deck for sub sound from the trunk.  I made the hole using two speaker baffles, ends cut and tucked one into the other and glued with 3M 77 spray glue.  Covered inside with a grille and painted with gray flake.  The rears are covered with the rear OEM carpet.  The fronts are in the doors with the original grilles...nothing to look at here, folks.

This is a starter system, as I had to break my wife into the idea of doing it one little step at a time.  But it does sound good inside the car.  It does not turn heads on the road, though, which is fine by me because I'm such an old fart now.

Sub:  Cerwin-Vega HED 12" 200 watts
Mono amp:  USacoustics USB600D
Speakers:  Pioneer 6X8 coaxials in factory locations
Amp:  Profile CL440 4X50

All speakers and sub are at 4 ohm.  Dynamat and other sound damping on both skins of the front doors, rear deck and on the trunk lid.  Altogether not much here but better than my friends' best OEM systems, and the younger guys like it and are starting to put their own ideas together.  A lot of fun to do and the benefit of good loud music, too.

Can't link to your hard drive man,"file:///C:/My%20documents/My%20Pictures/New%20Folder/900-999/PICT0974" . Also you have to include the file extension, like ".jpg". Go to a site like Photobucket.com and host them there, then you can link to from there.

Also if the pics are rather large, then just supply a link as to take up as little bandwidth from the forum.

Wow, that looks nice.  Gotta love those stealth installs. posted_image

What kind of finish is that on the enclosure?  It looks like some sort of stone paint or something.

Stealth...LMAO...Yeah this guy was definitely not going for the inconspicuous look.  Thanks, Steven.  Gotta say, that enclosure of yours is certainly an ingenious idea.  It's gonna look sweet after it's finished.  Yeah it is actually stone finish paint.  Kinda retro, I know, but I used on a box for a mid eighties camaro awhile back, and now that all everyone wants to have.  It's called Stone Creations, made by Rustoleum.  It comes in about three or four different colors, but of course they all look like rocks, so the Grey Stone color seems to look the best.  If you try it heres a few helpful hints.  Cover the box in grey primer first, and it will work for a base color.  The stone paint doesn't cover very well, and at $7.00 a can, it gets pricey.  The first one I did with it was a downfire for two 12's in an 01 Silverado, and it took three and a half cans to cover the wood color up.  you can change the look of it by varying the distance you spray from, and the direction.  If you spray low and across the box, it gives it a cool "in motion" look.  And last but not least, 2-3 coats of clear over the top, to keep the flecks from coming off.  am trying to find a source for similar texture paint, but with different colored fleck, such as red, blue, pink, or purple to give it some color, but haven't found any yet.  I can remember back in the day, ten or twelve years ago, you could find colored fleck paint everywhere, but I guess the fads wear off. will have some more pics of the friggin' movie screen that is in that one too, hopefully later today.

Is the stone look considered retro?  I've kinda always wanted to try that theme.  Figured it would look really good.  I thought your picture actually proved it.

I believe this model is discontinued now.  Crutchfields had them for like 4 days at $120 and I was lucky to get one ordered.  The new model # is USX600D, and the only difference I can tell by looking at pictures is the blue light, which changed from a pinhole to a light bar.  And the power increased by about 50 watts somehow.  My bet is it's still the same amp, might have been borderline underrated before, but you know how competition is!  All in all, I like it for its simplicity and small size, and it has a higher than average efficiency for class D.  The specs for THD are better than comparably-priced amps, too, from what I have seen.  Provides good clean power and stays cool.

An upgrade I'll make in the future is the sub, which I'll change to a 350-400 RMS.  I'll get a DVC 4 ohm and run the amp at 2 ohm.  But, grab one of these if you can find one.  I think they're a good value.

This is my JL Audio 10w7  fiberglassed in the wheel well of my 2001 eclipse. I have alpine type x 6.5" components bi amped off of the JL 300\4, and a 500\1 for the sub.  I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with the amps yet. Any Ideas or suggestions would be great.

Sorry I am alittle bit slow on the uptake guys, but my very hectic lifestyle as the glamourous network administrator has prohibited me from spending too much time in front of the (actually MY computer) computer lately... Oh well, better late than never, eh? And, yes, it needs a wash and a vaccuum, but there ya go

My very unassuming dash

...and completely (mostly) stock door panels

165 Amp alternator from Alterstart

Optima red-top with power cables visible

The trunk, with space for a trip still!

The trunk, from the front.

Custom modified Eclipse 6993 Point Source 6X9's, bi-wired and bi-amped

...the other side

And the envelope into which it all fits! I know, a little plain, but I like it that way...

Thanks for looking!

MBZ oe, your image tag is pointing to a file without a file extension. "https://members.aol/bigolde/workspace". I've tried adding several extensions to the above with no success. What type of file is this? The file extention should be one of the following  ".jpg",  ".jpeg", or ".gif".

mbz, is the file extension included on the file you uploaded.
if its just called workspace, rename it to

workspace.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .bmp

which ever format you used.

if it was taken with a digital camera, most likely .jpg
if it was scanned and saved in paintbrush, probably .bmp

When I upload it from my computer, the extension is there and I can see it on the post. But if I preview it or post then you cannot see it. I posted a pic 30 seconds before and it worked fine. I can post any other pic and it is fine. Only this one won't work. Watch, I'll post another pic and it will work fine.
