I am having somebody build 2 18 inch subwoofers that are single voice coil 4 ohms. He said he will not do dual voice coil and cannot lowerer the ohms. To get the full power out of the amp and the subs, I would like to run my amp at 1 ohm.  Is there anyway that this can be accomplished??? ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE HELPFUL.

1.  Use a more powerful amp....or

2.  Use two amps

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

No if the voice coils are 4 ohm then you cannot accomplish a 1 ohm load with 2 subs.

If you don't mind me asking, who do you have building the speakers?  Do they really know what they are doing?  Speaker engineering is a practice of compromises, and it takes some exerience to learn what the best compromises are.  Are you sure you couldn't find what you are looking for in the driver for cheaper by buying from a manufacturer?  Even the build house used is important.  I know of one build house that the engineers working for them don't know what they are doing.  If you don't mind, I'm curious about the details of this project.

i am curious too, steven - i have heard this claim from many people (not here on the12volt.com, but here in bakersfield). if he is "building the drivers for you", what are his reasons for not being able to build them to your specs? sounds a little shady to me... oh, and by the way, if you have 2 four ohm drivers, and wire them in parallel (for a single two ohm load), and bridge the amp, YOU HAVE A ONE OHM LOAD PER CHANNEL! this is the PERFECT way to get one ohm, and the ONLY way to get a one ohm load with two single voice coil drivers! we've been over this and over this people...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

This man has been in business for over 20 years in Milwaukee, WI and has a very good reputation for anything that has to do with speakers.  He is very reputable.  His prices are good too, better than buying 2 strokers, but it just takes him a while to get things done.  My amp is a monobloc with 4(2+ 2-) speaker outputs so bridging will be out of the question, I think I will just get a different amp, thank you all for you suggestions.
