I HAVE THIS CUSTOMER THAT HAS A 2001 BMW X5.  A LOCAL SHOP HAS ALREADY FORCED HIM TO REPLACE HIS FACTORY CD CHANGER AND SPEAKERS WITH PIONEER AND SWITCH HIS FACTORY AMP WITH A 4 CHANNEL CALIFORNIA PRO.  THE CHANGER HAS BEEN INTERGRATED INTO HIS FACTORY DECK AND THE SPEAKER LEADS FROM THE FACTORY AMP HAVE BEEN INVERTED TO RCA PREOUTS.  HE WANTS TO RUN A 8 INCH SUB IN THE REAR PANEL WITH NO BOX.  I CANT FIND A FREE AIR 8 INCH SUB, ANY SUGGESTIONS?  ALSO WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO GET A SIGNAL TO THE SUB AMP?  SPLIT THE SIGNAL FROM THE 4 CHANNEL? HOW WILL THE SOUND QUALITY BE?

First and foremost, it will not help. The factory amp is already crossed over and there isn't much low end there to begin with. Second he probably won't gain anything by adding a free air 8. You can demonstrate this by taking a 8" bass tube and putting it in, quickly.

If he still wants it, then try to not use anything highend as he will be replacing it often. You would need to split the signal going into the 4 channel.
