I just installed a new head unit in my car and the bass is pretty dissapointing, my factory stereo had much better bass than this one. I don't want to put a subwoofer in my car and the new stereo sounds pretty good except for the weak bass, so I was wondering if there are any cheap amplifiers out there that just amplify bass?

Most factory head units have built-in EQ circuitry to improve bass response.  Try simply boosting the bass control on yor new HU to, say, +4 or so.

Here's the unit I bought: https://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=90119678&loc=111&sp=1

I have the bass to +10 and loudness on and the bass is about half of what the factory unit put out when it wasn't even cranked up all the way.

Are you absolutely sure you have your speakers in phase? pos. to pos. and neg. to neg.?

I'm positive the speakers aren't the problem, I put the factory deck back in just to double check and the bass sounded much better.

Back to the original question, are there any inexpensive amps that will just amplify the bass?

Uh... no... What deck is this?  Are you SURE it is wired properly, are you sure that you do not have a external amplifier that is in the way?  Give us the vehicle type and deck model.  Your deck may just be a POS.

And the vehicle is a 2000 pontiac sunfire.

Oh... oh, dude.  Look you got a POS, IMO.  All my experience with BOSS, particularly the decks has been that they are junk.  60x4?  No, sorry son, not even close. More like 10 or 15x4 @1k w/ 15% THD.   Im not surprised it sounds worse.

Well, double check your wiring and play with your eq settings.  Short of that you can get a cheap 4 channel, that would make it sound better.  This is better then your built in amp, i know it only says 40x4, but the specs on those 40w look allot better then the deck, i promise.  https://www.cardomain.com/item/BOSC350  Keeping with the BOSS audio theme...

Personally, id just try to get my money back and buy a better deck, many can be had for 100-150 that are a world away from that BOSS.

wow, i can't believe boss' marketing scheme actually worked on someone. To lighten your situation, do what was said previously and do +4 on your bass or look for a loud button. I got a loud button on my deck, and it makes a world of difference.

Loud button = distortion.

Boss = distortion.

Both together.......................you don't wanna know.

Recommend you put the factory amp back in...........hang around the forum for awhile and pick up some ideas............and then join the world of car audio.

Hey that loud button sends me no distortion on my nakamichi, i chequed and saw what it does in the manual. All it is is an automatic +2 on your bass so you don't have to go through your head unit and adjust manually. Maybe on some hu's, but it sounds the exact same when i do it manually as when i hit the loud button.

Thanks for all the replies, guess I should have done some better research before buying that one. Hopefully they'll take it back.
