10,000 watt amp

after talking with a buddy i was excited to hear about the new amp hi fonics releasing... it will be called the "maximus" and it will be 10000 watts at 2 ohms... he told me that it needs 5 ADDITIONAL alternators to run properly and it consumes as much power as 5 average houses with EVERYTHING turned on... MSRP is set at $10,000 which is a buck a watt, buttttttt dealer price is significantly lower so if your interested in getting one you shouldnt have any problem negotiating  ;)

and the use of this amp besides competition, although hifonics has gone down to a level that is no where near competition status

Welllllllllllllllllllllll, the whole thing about it consuming as much as 5 houses is a bullsh*t statement made by someone who neglected to take into account that a house runs off 110V not 12V. So it is a poor statement to make. That not withstanding if they are actually going to put this thing into production I hope they dont make to many because its not exactly gonna be a big seller. Ask JBL how many of their 6000 watt crown designed amps they sell and you will get what I mean. This isnt the first time a company has made an amp this big but most companies arent dumb enough to actually make production models because they are usless for almost all consumers. Pheniox Gold published pictures and specs for an amp last year that was 2500 watts x4 at 4 ohms but was smart enough to not actually make a production of them, just a prototype. They have since talked about making a very limited run of these amps for that want one and are willing to put  a signifigant down payment on them. That amp is also a buck a watt and dont expect a local dealer to have one in the back on the shelf. Its all about making something that will get people talking about your company and help drive the sales of your relalistic product. There are 152 output transistors in the device and there are 96 mosfets in the power supply section of this beast!

There is also a pretty sophisticated computer system built into it which it uses for all sorts of DSP applications and monitoring and maintance of its self. It can even use the DSP to soften the clipping on an over driven signal and it also uses its DSP to match gains and make sure that everything is matched perfectly channel for channel being that it is a 4 channel amp.

There are even digital temp sensors in the unit that are sampled at a very high rate and the amplifier uses this information to keep its self running at the proper spec all the time. Everything right down to the speed of the fans that cool the amp is all controlled by the DSP module.

And there is a cool display and keypad that allows you to dig into the DSP system and you'll be able to see what is going on inside your amp. You'll be able to view operating temperatues and things of that nature just at the simple touch of a button.

us amps de 6000

we've gotten a little over 116 volts peak output@ 1 ohm playing a sine wave, you do the math.  its stable to 1/2 ohm but i havent had the ballz or the want to blow the crap out of any expensive woofers to see what it'll do @ 1/2 ohm.  all that using 1 nice large alternator and 3 agm type batteries.  and its only about $6K, a relative bargain for that catagory amp.

No, that is not true. 10000 watts is 10000 watts, except at 110 volts, it only takes 90.9 amps to make, instead of 833.3 amps. A watt is a watt is a watt, it matters NOT what the voltage is. A watt is a unit of energy expended (or work done), and it just takes less volume (current) to do the same amount of work when the pressure (voltage) is higher.
