Hi,

I have a 1999 Toyota Camry CE that has a factory AM/FM Cassette player in the dashboard. There is empty slot below the cassette player and I want to add a CD player there. Can I do this? Any pointers?

If not, I would rather remove the current player and replace with a simple CD player that plays mp3. Any instructions on how to remove the current cassette stereo and install a new one. I want to install one of those $150 CD players and am not looking for a sub-woofer or amplier or anything fancy for now.

More than saving money, I want to get thrill of doing it myself and hence not going to a professional. Is it a very difficult task?

Also, my car doesn't seem to have an antenna, not one that I can see (I bought it used recently). Is this normal? The radio does play fine though.

Thanks a lot!!
Gaurav

Its not that difficult. If you order your cd player from crutchfield they will give you a kit, and wire harness. They also give ya  a sheet telling you how to do it. Great for a first timer. The antenna is probably embedded in the windshield. Take a close look at the top of  the windshield and see if you see like a black line in it.

Doing a headunit install is pretty easy and self explanatory on most vehicles. Make sure you buy the wiring harness for your car rather than just chopping off the factory one from the car and trying to go wire to wire.
Also buy a dash kit so the unit isnt just flopping around in there. Crimp all the wire connections and take your time to make sure you do it right.

Your car probably has a antenna built into the back window, or possibly the windshield, look and see if you can find a line on the windows, or maybe check the owners manual.

Check the Install Dr. for instructions on changing the HU in your vehicle.

In general it is possible to add an external source component to a factory head unit only if the factory head had CD changer controls and you purchase the proper adapter.
