I have an Orion 250HCCA that quit working a while back. I found a shop that repairs amps and they will fix it, if it CAN be fixed, for $90 plus shipping. Is it worth fixing? Or should I just give up on it and go on to bigger and newer amps? Just wanting opinions on what to do.

As a suggestion? Send it back to Orion directly, they know the amp WAY better than any run-of-the-mill shop. They will fix it correctly, and it'll probably have a 90 day warranty on the repair as well... It'll probably cost about the same, too. Those are kick ass amps, and for 90 dollars? I'd repair it!

That's a tough call....I say save it on the shelf over your workbench and go on to newer and bigger now. Maybe some day in the future you'll get the gift and be able to fix it yourself. Or you might find an "old school" spendthrift nut on Ebay who is willing to buy it not working for a mere $150, and that may not be too much of a surprise in the future, either. haemphyst, I wouldn't have posted this if I saw your response first, as you know these amps much better than I do....but I'll leave this up anyway just for the sake of confusion...

Yea, this is a fantastic amp and also reccommend having Orion/DEI take a look at it.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will get it repaired, even if I don't use it. I have the 225HCCA and 2100HCCA also, and I hate not having all 3 of them in usable shape. I wasn't aware that Orion still worked on their older amps anymore. I will check with them and see if they will repair it.

I have a older 225HCCA amp on two AudioBahn AlumaQ's and the amp puts out alot of power when bridged down to 1 ohm and never gets hot. I would have it fixed.

I don't think DEI will work on the amps, at least they didn't when they first took over Orion. All warranty amps we had sent them were replaced with new product.

That is sort of what I expected. I haven't been able to get through to them yet. It would seem that they wouldn't be very familiar with the older Orion stuff anyway. And since this amp has been out of warranty for a COUPLE of days, I doubt they will touch it. I will keep trying to call them and see though.
