vertical deck install?

I am picking up my jeep wrangler i just bought on monday and am contemplating the install. it has a soft top, which will be rarely on so i need to conceal everything. i am going to leave the stock system in as an additional trick to thwart theives. would a deck be ok to run vertically in the center console's lock box? the other thing is, what kind of material should i use to cover the sub and amps behind the rear seat the might help the sound, let alone not hurt it?

an then finally, i cannot fit kick panels in because of the clutch, where would you guys alternatively stick the components? i know the system wont sound nearly as good as it should, but hell, its worth a shot.

As for the vertical deck install, most manufacturers recommend that the deck be installed at an angle no more than 30 degrees.  I am not sure what would happen if it were not mounted at the correct angle, however.  It might affect the ability of the deck to function or eject cd's.

As for something to cover the speakers with (to hide them), you can buy acoustically transparent fabric (the stuff they put on the end of susaphones and other instruments) to cover them, without affecting the sound.  However, I am not sure where you would find this.

my goal to cover it is to make the section behind the seats is to be like a trunk for security and to keep things dry. so whatever substance it is has to be hard.

Not to be offensive, but if you only listen to what you WANT to hear, why did you even post here.

As for how to cover the subs with something hard, the only thing I can think of would be to build a bandpass box. This would completely cover the sub and make it very hard to steal, especially if the box is glued together.

I have no experience with mounting decks vertically, but I know that some if not all manufacturers recommend against more than 30 degrees or so. I would imagine that this is due to heat dissipation problems when mounted vertically. I'd imagine cd's would eject fine, but maybe have issues playing. the best way to find out would be wire the deck up, and position it vertically without mounting it, and test it out. Or find someone who has done it before and ask them.

As far as covering the speakers goes, if you plan on getting mud, dirt of water in your jeep, (which anyone buying a jeep probably does) I'd cover your speakers and subs with a hard grill. Nothing like the grills of a pioneer speaker where its just a couple of plastic bars, but a real grill. Full metal grill with a bunch of little holes punched in it. then I'd cover your grill with one or two layers of grill cloth to keep water out. Also I wouldn't recomment kickpanels, I'd keep the speakers as high as possible to prevent getting them wet with your application. Good luck.

did a cj7 which  we mounted a tape deck vertical in the center console and put a changer below it also remember that it will be uncomfortable to drive with the console open another idea is marine radio with remote mount controls or marine speakers also cinsider that if you go 4 wheeling you will have trouble listening to cds anyway might not want to put to much $ in it unless you going to sleep in it all the time and never leave it
