Hello all, I'm coming to you with a strange problem.
I've installed a Blaupunkt San Francisco HU in my 2004 Silverado using a PAC adapter for the warning chimes, but the HU won't power up(seems to be a common problem). The PAC unit is operating fine and chimes when needed. The confusion is coming from the wiring harness, and the instructions.
The install manual shows that there are 2 constant 12V sources necessary, and a switched, which doesn't make sense to me at all. I've wired the most obvious power and ground wires from the PAC unit to the HU, and when keyed on, the switched power comes up, and when off, the standard constant(yellow?) is also showing line voltage.
The manual pictures show that besides the switched and constant in the harness, a 12V constant and ground should be run to the battery and plugged into the side of the unit. Like I said, it really doesn't make sense and I don't know if/how that is affecting the HU's operation.
Any Blaupunkt people around here who can guide me through this? I've bench tested the unit using a chassis ground and the indicated 12V switched prong and had no luck. I don't know if Blau uses a funky power configuration wherein it needs the power ant., the 2 constants, and the standard switched power to operate. It just really doesn't make sense.

Yes, both constant powers must be supplied. Blaupunkt (and others) use a seperate power to the battery for the internal amplifiers. The San Francisco was, by the way, an excellent HU, as are all the Blau Skyline series.

Support the12volt.comI guess I also should ask-will a lack of power to this power plug not allow it to power up? I'm hoping it really is the problem and it's not a DOA unit.

It wouldn't technically be a "lack of a power plug", for most HUs I've ever installed sine they have only one full-time 12V and one switched source. THis one just requires 2 constants I guess. I ran a power and a ground to the second power source, and it works great. THanks for the help.
