I see a lot of sub boxes built with the front baffle and sides recessed into the enclosure.  Why is that done, and should I do that when making my box?

It’s just a type of way of upholstering the enclosure. It has nothing to do with the sound properties of the enclosure.

I guess I thought it may add some stability to the front baffle, but I was just looking for someone else's thoughts.  thanks
