i got this car, and finally, some pictures. now you all know i'm not just full of it. lol.

link is this:

https://lof.gotdns.org/DAN/

anyways. series of pictures in there. the 'click here' for notes links actually loads hte full size image with some 'blah' from yours truly.

i want to bring some speakers to the front somehow, to balance, and maybe come up with some alternatives. the back panel there is just some crap board i mocked out to see if things have clearance and so forth. i gotta take it out here soon anyways, so i'll take pics. DIRECTLY behind it is the gas tank... which... should worry me. if it weren't for the fact that thing is a death trap as it is. lol.

plz. comments. i need speakers in the front, and advice, opinions and 'HOLY CRAP THATS STUPID.' lol. highly appreciated.

I looked at the speaker in the front...The way u want to do that is not very safe for the speaker and it would not allow proper sound to travel into the car as it would be distored by the soundwaves passes thru the drivers legs, I recomend making a kick panel speaker box, they are pretty easy to make and several plases online can show you how to use fiberglass. IMO opinion it would have a nicer look and have better sound quality. If u do put the speaker under the drivers seat I would definettly put a cover over them.

Plus it depends on the look you want to have on the car. Do you want to restore the car? Do you want to turn it into a unique creation, or are you just adding a sound system to listen too?

Yeah, in hindsight, i should have sat in teh car and took a picture of it, inorder to show you where my legs are in reference to the pedals. the clutch is 3 1/2 inches from the sidewall, and between the side wall and the clutch is actually my windshield wiper pump switch. needless to say my leg is upagainst the side wall completely. The only solution would be to cut into the side wall, remove metal, put a box in *that would only be 2 in deep, 4 1/2 wide and 5 in tall* and to create a recese. this however would then cover up teh vents that are down on the floor board area in the walls.

i am restoring, and i am doing a custom paint job, and i am adding a sound system worth listening to to the car.

I need something taht'll just allow me to listen to tunes right now, not something that will be show quality. When i get that far (that much money) i will be going that direction. The plan is to take out the back panel (its in front of the mock speaker/stereo panel) that creates teh actual luggage rack. Its a 3/4in plywood wrapped in carpet. Under this is two recesed areas, 2 in deep, and i'd say about 14 inches accross and 10 inches back. i could in theory place tools, jumpercables, jacks and what not here, the spare tire over them, and raise the luggage area up the hieght of the spare, and create some sort of slopping fiberglass doodad where i could but some real speakers and a sound system.

... if that all doesn't make sense i'll have to take soem more pictures and make some notes on them... hehe.

anyways, thanks for the comment. what do you think about hanging the speakers form teh dash. the'll not be able to point 'toward the driver' but instead down (saves foot room) at about 45 .... i'll have to sketch something up.

*sighs* its too early... and look! its noon. *just woke up* time to go fix that damnedable headlight. lol

Opel GT, haven't seen one of those in ages.  Fun car to drive, PITA for trying to add sound.  No room in the doors or in the kick area.  I once helped a guy fabricate a set of triangular enclosures to house 4" coaxials, and we mounted these on TOP of the dash in the corners of the windshield.  Just screwed them directly into the dash top.  A set of 6X9's in the rear area behind the seats where you have speakers already and the 4" up front to bring the soundstage forward.  It blocked some visiblity but it worked.  Something to consider.  We dumped the spare and put a 10" sub in place of it.

ok. i had a couple minutes to burn up.

https://lof.gotdns.org/DAN/

i added a link and graphic to the top of it, shows sketchily what i'd like to do

Now this area is... relatively open to the elements. just behind the gas tank the taillights and what not. The gas tank sits INSIDE the car, and is almost perfectly closed off to the elements, however, to be safe, a second glass line could be placed over the tank, and sealing it away, however, this entire system needs to be removable, as if the gas tank ever gives me issues, i'll have to be able to get it out.

meanwhile, luggage and crap (does have his hobbies, and the girlfriends do have thier crap) need to be also up 'near said stereo stuffs'... and protecting it is important, of course.

this would recquire me to rip out the back upper panel, just below the rear windshield, but i have a crap parts are i can do a dismantle, and mock in, preserving well, irreplacable parts in teh car that already works. lol.

and yes. i want to keep the utilities alive. i need a spare, *its a stick, don't know why i want cables... hahaha* and tools, spare parts (alternator perhaps. *Chuckle chuckle*)

agh. i wish you could edit. IT IS possible, DYohn, to put speakers in the doors. remove the window cranks, put in power, cut a recess, and have the speaker mount come forward. Father used a pair of door speakers from my old 91 geo storm, cut the backs off their mounts, and screwed them too the doors, cut a hole in the door planel, lined it, and slipped it over the speaker. when he puts it all back to gether again (he's painting right now) i'll take a picture so you alls can see it.
