The Phoenix Gold QX500.1D that I have has two 40amp on board fuses. I have been told I can get away with an 80amp in fuse for the battery and I have also been told that I would need at least a 100amp in line fuse. If I go with an 80 amp I can use a Maxi fuse holder, if I go up to a 100 amp I have to switch to an ANL style fuse holder. What would you folks recommend?

What size power wire are you using? THAT is the fuse size you want to put in.

A number 4? Use a 150A fuse. A number 8? Use a 100A fuse. The underhood fuse is to protect the POWER WIRE and THE CAR, not the amplifier. As long as it is LARGER than the combined total of all the fuses in the amplifiers attatched to it, but NEVER larger than the rated ampacity of the power cable itself, you are good to go.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
