I have a commercial account that wants a alarm system on their 04 Econoline that when triggered..... calls a cell phone to alert the owner. Is there such an animal.

you should be able to use a business alarm cell dialer module..... most commercial alarms operate on 12 volts...

Sorry, I am adding a car alarm to a Ford Econoline. The guy carries tools & test equipment in the back. He is frequently over 1000 feet away from his van. He can't always hear the alarm go off.

What he wants is  for this cell phone to call him when the vehicle security system is triggered.

correct I understand you want to install a vehicle alarm into a van that will call his cell phone when it is set off... what I think kgerry was saying is that commercial business buildings have a module that will call your cell phone and that should meet up with the alarm you want to install because they both run off 12 volts...

I only know how to start a vehicle remotely with a cell phone not how to call a cell phone when an alarm is set...

How would you go about starting your car with a cell phone? Not that it is really important since I have a remote starter installed in my car, but just curious.

Audiovox has a module for their alarms that allow you to control it with a phone call.  Kgerry's idea sounds good.

actually what i was saying is the module is a cell dialer that calls a series of numbers with a prerecorded message if the alarm is triggered... they are used in commercial buildings when weasels (thieves) cut the phone lines... the cell dialer then calls a series of numbers thru what is essentially a cell phone module..... you can have it call your cell phone or your home etc.

as mentioned, most home and business alarms i have ever had to deal with operate on 12 volts..... just a thought and something you may wish to look into.....

as far as starting a car with your cell phone, Alpine had this feature over 15 years ago.... many current brands have this feature.... Valet's Car-Comm line and Clifford are just two i can think of off the top of my coconut.....

I tried to look for the alpine one can't find it. Do they still offer the cellular 2 way? There are a few pieces out there. Looks like they are mostly from australlia and china.
