I am trying to upgrade the factory bose system in a 1999 Miata.

I have been trying for more than 2 days now to remove the bose amplifier, but it is a pain in the a#$! to do so. I was able to remove the front console, but I am in a jam in removing the HVAC controller - I need to remove this to access the bose amplifier. I tried to remove the dashboard, but I can't find the bolts/clips holding the dashboard.

I tried doing a google on how to remove dashboard or bose amplifier, but there is not clear instruction on how to do this. It says remove the the HVAC controller to access the bolts holding the bose amp. But how do I do this.

I called car domain - because I bought the head unit and speakers from them. But they don't know how to remove the amp. They referred me to this site.

I will appreciate it if someone can help me with my predecament.

from some of the pictures i was looking at online.... it looks like ford keys to get the ac controls out. there looks like there are little covers on both sides that pop off just like the radio. should be straight foward. or pop the pocket out from under the radio (with ford keys) and reach, turn, stretch and cut your hands up like us other installers do =-)

just be careful when pulling on the amp connectors... if there tight... when they come out and you hit you hand on the metal internals of the dash.... you do bleed !

you guys know what I am talking about...

I have the puller tool to pull out the AC controller. But the air temp cable, air ventillation slector cable are connected to the controller. The cables  doesn't have any length to it. It prevents the controller from coming out. I do not know how to disconnect the cable and If I get to disconnect it, I don't have the correct steps on how to connect it back.

You should consider having a professional installer do it at this point, then.  I'd hate to see you mess something up on your car and end up having to pay more in the long run to get it fixed.

Not to sure if this will help or not. Did a google on miata forums and registered and there is a ton of info out there. I suggest you do the same I have provided a link about dash removal and it explains about the HVAC controls as well.

Hope this helps you out. Just make sure you have a box of bandaids and a whole day with nothing planned.
