I have a 01 Focus zx3,everything has been working perfectly for 7 months,then all of a sudden three days ago my speakers just stopped working. I thought i blew them so i bought new ones and installed those and they do not work. My speakers are hardwired into the stock speaker wires so they aren't running off of a amp.My headunit still works,and my subwoofer plays the bass to the songs on the CD still,its just that my speakers do not work.I checked all fuses and everything,i tour my whole interior out today and checked all the wires and everything seemed ok,this has really got me stumped,and it is so boring not listening to music so any help is appreciated thanks alot. Im running a pioneer headunit,RFG sub,and phoenix gold amp.and alpine speakers.

Sounds to me that whatever amplifier is driving the speakers has died, whether it is the head unit or an external amp, or you have a wiring issue with a speaker lead or two that has shorted out. Check continuity through the speaker leads first. ------------- Support the12volt.com

Is there any kind of way where i can check the headunit to see if the internal amp has died?I mean all of this stuff is relatively new,7 months old.

jdiablo, the thing to do is not get panicked. Troubleshooting is methodical. You won't just "find" a problem without using a method, so get your digital multimeter up and running and start with those speaker wires that DYohn suggested. You'll be checking for plain ol' continuity (does a signal go through the wire from point A to point B?), so an old $10 RatShack analog meter will do this just fine. You have to start somewhere, and by troubleshooting you can isolate the cause of the problem.

Yes I tried that already,no juice to any speakers.So im guessing its most likely my headunit? I will give it some more attention tomorrow.My ? is,is there anyway to check the headunit if the internal amp is shot?

Like I said, first make sure none of your speaker leads are shorted. Do you own a multimeter? To check if the internal amp is bad, if the HU turns on and you have a speaker connected to it and there is no output, then the internal amp is probably bad.  ------------- Support the12volt.com

Yes I do own a multi-meter.I checked on speaker today,lol and it did not have any power going to it.But the HU does turn on,and sends a good signal to my subwoofer,but the speakers do not work.

Listen to the above advice: test the speaker leads for a possible short. The reason is this could cause the headunit's speaker outputs to shut down in an effort to protect the unit. This could be either a short to ground (via a pinched lead), or a shorted voice coil. Disconnect the stereo plug, and meter from each speaker wire to ground. You should not get a reading. Also test the dc resistance of the speakers at the deck, which should be around 4 ohms.

IT was the internal amp in the HU,i bought a cheaper version of the pioneer today and it works great,thanks alot guys.
