OK, OK, OK... I HATE Sony, so I won't buy a Sony branded memory stick... that's beside the point... Oh, that, and MS is a STUPID format! But now I'm stuck with it...

BREATHE, Dave!

My question is this: My new 8445 can use a "memory stick", but HOW BIG is the maximum? Is there a minimum necessary Eclipse's web-based e-Iserve feature? Does it use MS, MS-Pro, MS-ProDuo... Can it use ANY of those? If I buy one that is too big, will I be throwing space (and money) away? WHAT is the compatible MS format for this deck? Nothing in the manual, and if it only uses a 32MB, (as I have seen mentioned elsewhere) I'm hosed, cause 32MB doesn't seem to be readily available anymore... dammit, ANOTHER freaking reader in my house... this is geting rediculous!

Help, please! posted_image ARRRGGHHH!!! I need to call my commercial sales rep with info soon, so I can get it shipped today, so any expediency would be appreciated!

The bigger the better, with the CD8455 you can record music from the Cd in the HU to the Memory stick, you can also load music on the memory stick and play them on the HU, i don't know if the cd8445 have those options i think it have. it looks very nice, my 8455 come with 32MB memory stick i already have a 256MB memory stick. so when i install my HU i will see how good it is.

Yeah, I know all that... it's all pretty much the same for the 8445, too.

If I buy a 1G stick, is it all going to be recognized by the deck? Some sticks are too big for the application, depending on the application.

Also, WHAT specific memory stick can I use? There are three versions (at least) for "memory stick", so which do I buy? I don't really care which I end up buying, I just want it to work.

BTW, Bob... the Don Fulano? Superb! HIGHLY recommended... Sure, not everybody wants to drop a c-note on a bottle of tequila, but I will from now on! LOL

Can't beat Herradura Añejo and it's only half the price, $46 a fifth ;)

Dave, I believe Eclipse requires "Magic Gate" compatible memory sticks.  Not sure about the max capacity.  You could check with your dealer...

And no Te-Kill-Ya for me, thanks.  ;(

Yeah, volt... while the Herradura is fine stuff, there is other stuff out there to compete in that price bracket... Sadly, my favorite ALL TIME tequila (Rio de Plata) is no longer available in the states... That was only 25-40 a bottle, depending on where it was gotten.

Now, does anybody know the answer to my original question? posted_image

::::EDIT::::

DYohn... Ok, I looked that up as well, and they are ALL "Magic Gate" compatible, it seems. They are physically different sizes still... So, while a good suggestion, (and more than I have gotten from anybody so far) I am still no further along than I was.

BTW, for any 100% blue agave tequila over 50 bucks, you're usually paying for a fancy bottle. I have one that looks like a bong. I bought a couple others and never realy found the three year añejo's to be that much better than the two year añejo's, at least not for the difference in price. Another of my favorites besides Herradura is Milagro, either the Silver or Añejo...oO( I'm not big on the reposado's ) Ever try 'em?

EDIT: sorry, no help on the memory stick issue ;)

according to my book for the 8445, if you are going to use a Duo, it has to be in the adapter. also, it says that only memory sticks of up to 128MB can be used. Also, memory stick PRO versions can NOT be used. Hope this helps.

Sorry (not really) tcss, I'll pour you one and if you're not here in the next ten minutes, I'll have to consume it myself ;) If you solve haemphyst's memory stick issue, I'll pour you another one, but if you're not here, same goes ...cheers :)

Scotty, beam me down to New Orleans! Volt, I was wondering if you could move the get together thread from general discussion to car audio so more people will see it and respond. I'd like to get this thing organised. Thanks

Save room for me!

And I can make it there for pretty much any weekend, as long as I know about a week in advance! I'll make a trip to the bay area to pick up Dan and Dave if they want to split gas! Let's look for a (Monday off) three day weekend, shall we?

Actually I'm in Mandeville, just across the lake from New Orleans, but I believe the first annual get together should be down here, especially if it's "the12volt get together" ;) Mid to late July or after is good for me or we could even wait until next Mardi Gras.

Im all about the twisted tea. I know it sounds pretty girlyish but I drink for taste. 4 bottles will make me start feeling a bit toasty. 8 will get me nice and roasty, 16 will will leave me coasting for the whole night.

i know the CD 5000 requires a memory stick no bigger then 125MB it might be the same for this one also.

This has already been addressed Read the post on the top of this page. And there is no such thing as 125MB (its 128MB).

OK. Got the 128MB toy. Works fine, so far. WMA is a better compressed format than MP3, as far as I have heard so far... STILL crappy, but listenable...

Now, I need to figure out how to switch to MS ESN support... my deck wont switch. I've tried over and over, stick in, stick out... reading the original book, the addendum to page 30... Nothing. Any suggestions from there, ks?

You bet I do! lol. I believe the book says that the HU needs to be in standby mode. Did you ensure this? It took me a while to figure it out but what they mean by standby mode is when the car is on but you have pressed the power button on the deck so only the clock is displayed. I forget off hand what the other directions are, but if you follow the book you should be good from here. Let me know if you ahve any other problems.

Yep... made sure it was in standby mode... I can set the security with a CD, no problem, so I am pretty certain I know what standby mode is... You have to do that from standby, too, right?

After that, it is "Button 1", plus "Function Button", hold for more than 2 seconds. That no workie. Tried "Function Button" plus "Button 1", hold. That no workie. "Function Button" plus "Button 6", hold. Asks (correctly) to insert security CD. I can cancel Security CD in the same way. I don't know from here. Any suggestions from the Eclipse dealers lurking about?

I think you are trying to follow the wrong directions. There are 2 different securities you can do with the memory stick. The first being if the deck is desconnected and loses power, when its reconnected you have to enter the correct PIN to coincide with the MS. The second, if I remember right, has something to do with the ignition of the vehicle. I forget exactly what it is. Ill have to look at my book again because its been a while since Ive done it.
