So I have been having troubles lately with my kenwood kdc-x889.  It does not read cd's properly and sometimes have to pop face off or eject disc to get it to play, and even then sometimes it won't read it.  Also the other day I was playing a cd and it started to distort like crazy, and only when playing cd's.

I have it installed in a 91 crx with no a/c and it has been getting pretty hot out here in the bay area.  Does it sound like a heat problem though or a headunit defect?  If is heat should I install some computer fans?

Oh, forgot to say that I am not using the headunit amplifier to power any speakers.

Try the computer fan thing, though it might not work.  Since the radio's amp isn't actually powering any speakers, the radio shouldn't be getting too hot.

anyone else hook up fans behind their headunit?  I have never needed to do this but with my rex seeing no cool air sometimes maybe necessary?  Just does not seem right to me.

It is most likely a problem with the head unit itself and not because of the outside temperature. I would not waste your time putting a fan behind the head unit. Hopefully it is under warranty so you can have Kenwood take a look at it.

I have a Kenwood 815 dvd and have a similar problem. It gets hot and about 80% of the time when I shut my car down then restart it will not put out any sound. I have to turn the unit off then back on and it will work again. Let me know what you find out.  I am ready to return mine.

yeah, I am going to talk to the company I bought it from, it is fairly new like less than 6 months so we'll see.
