thanks a lot... do you have any tips on how to slide the stock head unit out? I'm trying to install a Kenwood powered sub and it comes with its own wiring... so its not designed to be powered directly from the battery. I'm thinking it'll be easier to attach to the cables at the back of the head unit than the cables down by the ignition and fuse box... any thoughts?

could anyone please tell me how the stock HU of my 05 Civic is mounted? I need to slide it out, but I don't want to break the plastic by prying it open if its also bolted in. any advice would be great. thanks

For standard, unscrew the shift knob, or for automatic, pry up on the small black trim piece around the base of the shifter.  Then starting in the front near the cup holders, pry the other black trim piece up.  It's only held in by a few clips.  There are two screws under that near the cupholder.  Take those out, the pull outward on the same piece to remove the two clips on each side.  with the two sides free, gently pull up and out on  them.  It will take the 12v plug with it.  Unplug it, and get that piece out of the way.  look up into the dash, and you will see 2 silver screws.  Remove both of those.  Then gently pry at the outermost part of the center dash.  It works best to start at the AC vents, get a finger in there, then pull the whole thing out.  Finally, there are 4 screws that hold the CD player in.  If you need any more help, PM me.

Where is the sub going?  If you're talking about wiring it in line with the CD player, that may be too much of a power draw.  It's generally a good idea to wire things into the fuse block.

are the wire colors the same down by the fuse block as they are behind the HU?
