ok my friend has a 98 tacoma and he has an aftermarket deck and stock speakers. only 1 of the 4 speakers work. everything else seems to work fine. there is no break in the wires. so i took a 9v battery to the good speaker and tested to see if it "poped" it did. so i did the same to the other speakers and they did not pop. i came to the conclusin that the speakers were bad. so am i right on the speakers or could there be something else wrong?

Sounds like it's probably the speakers.  You can tell for certain by pulling them, but in any case replacing with good aftermarket speakers is the way to go.

not sure why my post got deleted so here it goes again. If the speakers fail the 9V battery test they are indeed busted. Replacing them is your best option.

Sounds fishy to me. One bad speaker is enough to send a aftermarket cd player into protection. If you ask me there is something else going on.

Remove the speaker and use some wire to try your 9 volt battery on each speaker. If the speakers pop when you momentarily connect the speaker it should be OK. If you are using the 9 v battery with existing wiring in the truck, you could have a wiring problem.
