Does anyone know what the wire colors or pin locations on the stereo wire harness for a 2001 Toyota Highlander (base stereo system)? Also, Toyota seems to be notorious for mounting external amps somewhere in the vehicle. Does anyone know where it would be on the Highlander?
Thanks.

I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander, and I wish to replace the factory radio with an aftermarket unit... But they don't seem to make a aftermarket harness for this vehicle? I contacted crutchfield, and they told me I need to run the speaker wires to the factory amp output, but they also told me the factory amp is below the radio, I could not find it... Can you please give me some info on what to do, where is the factory amp? And what are the the wire colors for the factory amp harness? Thanks

The 8 speaker JBL premium stereo does have an amp located in the rear between the rear seats and the spare tire well. I would recommend not using the factory amp and wiring your head unit directly to the speakers.
To remove the head unit, first remove the trim bezel which is held on with 8 clips. Next remove the 6 bolts that hold the A/C and radio assy in. There are four bolts on each side of the assy. that hold the radio onto the bracket.
Hope this helps.
