I finally got around to fixing my ground, since I upgraded to 4GA last night, and it didn't make any difference. My new ground is a 1/4 inch stainless steel bolt, with a star washer on one side, a "Keps" nut (standard hex nut with star washer integrated), then a star washer, my ground eyelet, another star washer, and a nylon lock nut. all paint is ground off to metal using an air grinder on the inside, and i got as much as I could get off on the outside. The bolt is coming from the wheel well to behind my rear seat. I still get a noise if I turn my gain   to about 2v which is where it should be, and I still get a POP when I turn the key off. btw- I put a small amount of solder on the ground eyelet. Not too much.
In the pic, you cant see the bottom side of the ground but all of the paint is ground down with an air grinder...Amp is a lightning strike s4.500.1, 4 GA pwr/gnd, Stinger RCA's on opp side of vehicle, all terminals are tight. Problems existed with 8 gauge wire and old RCA's as well.

The problem lies in your HU. Pioneers are well known for noise through the RCA outs.

Ground out all the negative contacts on your RCA wires(the outer ones, thank God!), preferably at the HU side. Your problem will cease to exist.

Not to my knowledge which is, I must say, limited. I do remember reading in a previous post of yours about this. Someone told you that Eclipse HU's can be defective, too. I doubt this is your problem, but you can always try. While your system is on, touch a grounded wire to your RCA negatives, the outer ones. If the noise goes away, that's your problem. If not, your HU can be defective.

Will this also take care of my popping noise when I turn the key off? That's the most annoying thing out of all...

Are you using the remote turn-on wire to power up the amp or one tapped into an acc wire? If the amp stays on when the HU cuts off then that's when it makes the noise. Likewise if the amp is on when the HU is turn on then the pop noise will occur. Try turning off the amp before the HU.

1st of all, what kind of noise are you getting?  Is it alternator wine?  Does it change in volume when you turn up the volume on the radio?  I've seen in the past that there are some ground locations that will produce noise in a system no matter how good a ground you create.  The solution in those instances was to move the ground to a different location.  But it's important to make sure the noise isn't coming from something else.

Most quality amplifiers include circuitry that eliminates turn-on and turn-off pops.  If your amp doesn't include that circuitry, then I believe Peripheral makes an outboard circuit you can add to your system that will fix the problem.

It's kind of like a static, I guess. Just sound. Not alt. whine. And, two different amps have done it, with 2 completely different wiring kits. the only constant variable is my remote wire, which is run straight from the HU Remote wire.

Have you tried adjusting the gains on your amp(s)?

I suppose my HU could be an issue as my noise is alternator noise, but the noise appears and then disappears.

sometimes it is there and sometimes it goes away... So I am wondering if it is the HU.

MY guess is that it is the cd player or that you have a pinched rca cable. Make some muting plugs (search for what a muting plug is) and plug them in to see if you have noise still. If you do, it is a amplifier issue. If you do not, it is a source related issue. Then double check all the rca cables front to back, one little nick in a rca cable is enough to cause noise. 99% chance though that the evil Pioneer headunit gremlin has showed his ugly head.

Well, it's done it with my old RCA's and a set of brand spankin new Stingers so I'll be grounding the RCA negs and regrounding my HU straight to the chassis in the morning. Thanks mucho for the help guys.
