Im installing a stereo system into my new 2007 Honda Fit.. Its basically a larger 4 door hatchback..
I am for now going to use 2 Kenwood 12"s but later am going to upgrade to 3 JL 10"...maybe..
Anyways I have always used sealed boxes but want to try a ported box this time...maybe..
I mostly listen to rock and some club music and I like the feel of hard hitting bass like my sealed boxes gave me before..
My question is would a ported box give this same type of hard hitting bass or should I stay with a sealed box?
Do ported boxes work well in a hatchback car?
If I do build a ported box should it be one common box or sectioned off in the center between the 2 subs?
How many ports would I use and which direction should they fire(up or back)? The subs are probably going to fire twords the back of the car..
I dont know what my port should be tuned to.. Should the port tuning be for the style of music that I listen to?
What frequency should I tune the port to for 2 12"s and for use with rock/club music in a hatchback?
Sorry for all the questions.. Im only used to building sealed boxes..

You are going to be best off building a "cheap-o" version of the enclosure you are looking to use, putting it in the car, and experimenting with it - turning it, tuning it, whatever.
Ported enclosures can be very satisfying, if done right, but can also be as dissapointing on the opposite end of the scale, if done wrong. As far as "working", any type of enclosure will be a "by-guess-and-by-golly" affair, you won't know, until you put it in... There isn't any way to say that a sealed enclosure will work better in car A, than a vented enclosure will work in the same car.
I also own a Fit, and you are going to have some issues with that car, if you try to put any kind of (even) larg(ish) system in it. If not mistaken, I think that's a 55A alternator, and you aren't gonna have much left over, after you consider all the accessory loads.

Thats cool.. Ill have to build a ported box and try it out..
Does any company make a larger alternator for our Fit's yet?

Not that I've seen... Hell, I can't even get a reliable 150A for my CIVIC, and it's 6 years old!  The cases on them are just SO SMALL now... That does stuck.. I emailed some of the alternator companies to see if they make one so im waiting to hear back..
