I just picked up a new 2009 Yamaha YZF-R1 this past Saturday.  It's still all stock and definitely a lot faster than I ever care to go on a bike. The low and mid end torque on this thing is flippin' wicked!  Needless to say it's an absolute blast to ride :)  I look forward to seeing how haemphyst graphically accessorizes it ;)

Hey just remember, no matter how controlled the wheelie looks, they still call it reckless operation.  I never understood that one.

I went riding with a life long friend Saturday that does wheelies at 70 - 80 mph and stand up wheelies at 110.  This is him on his CBR 1000.

No doubt. It's not my thing and I don't encourage him.  Here's another photo of him from a couple weekends ago on the same bike (red, middle)... this I get into.

If you ever get the chance, that was an intense ride, even on a 600CC Scooter. I am sure your buddy has heard about it. You too have probably heard of it..

Do not watch these if you do not want to go.

The Tail of the Dragon is intense in a car, I can only imagine going through there on a bike.

There are definately some CRAZY bikers down that way.

I was down there last year and went through the entire thing in the dark - talk about a hell of a ride.

Well, there goes your post count!posted_image

I know, because I bought my bike in November and started buying my car audio stuff in December.  Well, as you can tell if you look at my installation progress pictures, the bike gets all my attention!  I never imagined a car stereo taking over 5 months to complete!  But then I never had a brand new bike AND brand new car audio gear to install at the same time!  Some of my friends wonder why I'm not online as much anymore.  They just don't understand the hypnotic powers a new bike has on its owner!

That's awesome that you got a bike!  Nice choice too.  Just don't get too crazy on it.  We still need you to keep us in line here!

And speaking of bikes, I just discovered a bike I never realized existed that I have to buy soon: the Kawasaki Z-1000.  Had I known about them or even heard mention of them I would have bought one instead of my current bike.  But I never stumbled across any, and obviously there weren't many used ones out there.  Now when I get my huge settlement from my parents' estate in the next few months, I'll have a new Z-1000 in my garage!  I never rode a sportbike but always said if I ever got one it would be a ZX-11 until the ZX-14's came out.  Now I don't know.  Perhaps an R1? Tee-Hee!

Here's MY "car audio installation avoidance tool", a 2007 Honda 919. Bought new in November 2008 with zero miles. Over 7,500 on it already, even though Winter just wrapped up here in Washington State...

Those streamers are actually functional on some Motorcycles.  They are there so the driver can, at a quick glance tell if the bike is in motion.  Thus letting the driver know if it is safe to put feet down and exit the bike.  Not so much needed on your bike.  Thanks for the star.

I don't know about the weather where you are.  But it has been 98 or above for the last 12 days.  We set a record.  I ride everyday.  I just can't see trying to ride for enjoyment in this weather.  It is downright ridiculous here.  Can't wait for the upcoming week.  Rain and Highs of 90 and even a day of 88.  Can't wait.

The heat index has been in triple digits here for at least the past two weeks or so. The lake has little affect on us, unlike the south shore.  I just stepped outside for the first time today. It doesn't feel bad, but it's still wet and I'm nursing a pinched nerve in my left shoulder/upper back, so no riding for me today :(

Don't know where you wound up, but I hear that Slidell was swarming with bikes.  My Dad lives there.  He rides a Piaggio (Vespa) 250 MP3   2 wheels in the front  one in the back.  Charcoal in color.  Also a Champagne colored Honda Silver wing scooter.  600CC but still a scooter.  I sent him a link to your pics.

We made it to Southside in Slidell, then to Ruby's Roadhouse in Mandeville.  I don't recall seeing those bikes, but there were a couple hundred or so there.  Mine looked a little different tonight with black seats on it instead of the off-red seats that came with it.

The more black you put on it the better it looks. Nowdays White is out, Stealth B2 Flat Black is in.   He was not out on the bike tonight. I just figured you might see him on the road during the day.

The only time I really ever see any three wheelers of any kind is at a bike night.  I rarely see them on the road.

I wanted the black one, but the WHITE/ red was the only one in stock and the dealers say they are all limited to the number of '09 R1's they'll have.  I haven't completely decided what I'm going to do with mine, but levers and rear sets will likely be next.  Those will probably be black too, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.  It seems like every time I scratch something off my list, I add a few more items to it.

Watching TV today I saw a show that was at a trade show for motorcycles.  It seems as though Cosworth is making some super duper ultra lightweight pistons for your bike.  So if you take the motor out of that thing one weekend, you might want to take a look at them.

I saw on the news tonight that there is a case of West Nile in your back yard.

When you say you didn't recall seeing any of those bikes, that leads me to think you are looking for a Can-Am with the front end that steers like a car.  Following is a pic of My Dad and his bike on the tail of the dragon.  The front end feels like any motorcycle on the road.  If I put you on that thing from the rear, you would ride it and if you didn't kick a tire when you put your feet down, you would never know that there were 2 wheels on the front of it.  The Can-Am does not lean.  There are several spots along the way where they take your picture and will sell you a copy of it.  Killboy.com is the one that is easiest to remember and the taker of this photo.  Just so you will be clear on what you are looking for if you see him on the road in Slidell.

I was too lazy to read all of the post but I was wondering if you have been to the dragon before. If so thats sweet and what did you think? Unfortunately now there are too many cops up there to really push the limits. I went up there on my bike (gsxr 600) a few years ago and it was freaking amazing. I got up to like 80 mph on it and about crapped myself. Never laid my bike down or anything close but it is def a great place to push the limits.  I hoped you checked out the tree of shame too. Thats freaking great! Good luck and stay safe if your going soon!

Now it spans from Galveston to Memphis to Atlanta.  It is moving very slow.  Rivers and Canals are at capacity here.

Edit  6;30 AM Friday.  It has passed me by.  You are to be out of it in the next hour.  It now spans from the lake to Kentuckyti North Carolina  and covers the entire state of "Warm And Sunny Florida"

It appears as though the life expectancy of an alternator on a Honda SilverWing scooter is 67,000 miles.  Could not have happened at a better time.  It happened Thursday past.  I would have probably not ridden it Friday, Saturday or Sunday.  I was hoping it was the regulator / rectifier, not so lucky.  Tearing it down this weekend and hoping for bad connections at the alternator,it has to be because Honda's do not break.  At least that is my positive attitude going into the job.

I love the cold weather, I think the reason for that is when i was an infant, we could see Mt. Fuji out of our back door, it is covered in snow year round.  The walls of our house were paper thin.  Mom said the house was always cold inside.  I spent the first 11 months of my life freezing.  We came back to the states at that time.  I really believe that what you get used to early in life becomes what you long for.  I used to hate the summer time, but recently figured out why that was, I lost 85 pounds and now the summer is much easier to handle.  Since the weight loss, I do tend to get chilly in colder weather.  Wihter riding is all about the gear.  I live 3 miles from Cabela's.  They have tons of cold weather riding gear.  It is all camoflauged, but it works well for riding.  That was my first experience riding in the snow.  It is much more challenging than riding in the rain.  When the rain hits your shield, you can see through it.  When the snow hits your shield, it has to be wiped off pretty regularly.  My left glove was drenched when I got to work.

I'm just the opposite... I love warm weather and would live in shorts all year long if I could.  I just ordered some fleece polypropylene thermals so I can ride in temps below 55/60 degrees.  Regular thermals and leather just aren't warm enough for me, especially at highway speeds. I'm sure a balaclava would help a lot too. I try to never ride in the rain, but have been caught in it a few times and dread the hours it takes to clean my bike afterward.

BTW, here's a fairly recent photo with a few new bits...

And finally your user name makes sense to me!!!!!!

You are absolutely nuts to ride in the snow!  I don't really mind the cold 'that' much but being wet, covered in snow, while riding a bike is way too much.  Once either my hands or my feet get cold I'm done for.

How many people were riding with you?

I was riding to work.  Funny thing is there were a couple of co-workers that called in and said they could not make it.  The boss found out that I made it on the scooter and told me to call them and see if they had a helmet so I could go get them and get them to work.

If I had your bike I could have made it to work before the snow began to fall. First 20 minutes of the ride was in the rain.

Yes today was a beautiful day.  A couple Sundays ago was the day that all the fair weather riders came out.  I rode about 10 miles down the road and encountered about 200 bikes

Last week was a trying time for me to ride.

Same exact make and model tire.

The racing slick in the first photo did not look near that bad when it was on the rim and under pressure.

That tire should have been replaced a long time ago. Was that on your bike?

Yes it was, I had the new tire for several weeks.  Just did not have time to change it.  I knew it needed to be changed, believe me when I say extra precautions were taken.  Rode like a new bike after changing it.   There was no interstate riding for the last couple weeks.  Sorry about the 3 separate posts, I could not get to the end of the pic to add the second photo then could not add the text after the second one.

I guess now the username fits.

No, not going to do any tunes on my bike. I could do something as simple as ear buds, but when I ride, I ride.

When riding there is not an option, but riding while I'm there is.
