I have an Omega remote start unit that I am trying to install into a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. I cannot find a starter wire in the ignition, all the wires I tested have voltage with the ign on and running or constant power.

The wire diagram for the remote starter are.

Green = starter + output

White = Acc + Output

Red = 12 volt + input

Yellow = ign + output

YELLOW /GREEN = ign/acc/start + output

Red = 12 volt + input

The green wire is the one that I am unsure where to connect it to on thr car.

Are you sure the yellow in the ignition is not the starter wire? My notes show the 04 Grand Am's starter wire as yellow in the ignition harness.

I will check again, do you know if I need a another module for the passkey? I didnt think so but i've been searching this site and now I think I might need it.

You definitely need to bypass the passlock II for remote starting. My recommendation for a bypass would be the GMBP it is very easy to hook up, and requires no cutting of the factory wiring in your car.

I think you can locate the wires behind the radio as well.

It's easier to work with the wires under the dash going into the firewall gromet. The only wire you still need to grab at the ignition harness is the GREEN 2nd IGN wire.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to order that and try it again. This ended up being harder than I thought and i'd still like to do it myself before I bring it to a shop. Are there any factory wires that I will need to cut or do I just solder into them? Also I have the monsoon sound system, when I removed the radio today I left it hooked up because of the theft system. If I did unplug the radio does it require a code to be turned back on? Thanks

Your car has factory anti-grind so I do not really see a need to cut any wires. If it requires a code, it should be in the paperwork that came with the car.

There is a way to install without a bypass module if you want to safe a few $$.  The only thing is you have to live with a light that stays on, on the dashboard.  There is a wire you have to cut while the car is running.   I actually hooked it up to a switch myself so that if the switch was closed the remote start would not work (did that whenever it was parked in the garage so that the kids would not turn it on when playing with the keys).  Sorry I do not recall the specific wire I found the info on a GM website regarding problems with the factory start disable security.

the yellow wire is definetly the starter. I just did one of these yesterday and it is a lot easier to get all of the wires in the big harness in the drivers kick going into the engine bay. However as velocity said you need to grab your 2nd ign right at the key behind the radio. Do not be like me and search for a while wondering where the hell the green wire is and why it is not with the rest of the ign wires. Just pop out the radio and it is right there.

Parking lights, brake are in the same loom of wires as well just below the loom of wires you will find the tach wire as well. VIOLET/WHITE smaller gauge ( there are two of the same colored wires in this connector ).
