I need help with a doorpin wire,i need to trigger(-)an input wire on a GPS unit,The problem i am having is the doorpin wire rest's at ground and then changes to (+) when the door opens.i tried this set-up..85.and 87. to ground...86.(+) from door trigger wire when opened...30. to GPS input.With this set-up the dome light didn't workafter you opened the door one time,the relay was being held in,when i removed the wire from pin 86 the dome would come on.

85 = 12v+

86 = door pin

87a = ground

30 = input to GPS

Or you can use  domelight wire in the truck. The domelight should be a positive trigger (rest at ground go to 12v+ with door open) you can use a relay to change the polarity on this. If I remember right, it should be BLACK/ blue in either the pass kick or the driver A pillar.

Thanks for the reply,I have it hooked to the dome wire now but that's not a true indicator,the driver can turn on the dome with the switch on the dash and this would register on the GPS as an open door.Your relay set-up looks like it will work,I will give it a try.

there is something I want to do with my alarm that fits perfectly in this topic. Since I have a cavalier, I use the (-) door trigger inputs on my alarm. I want to install some more sensors but I dont want to diode the trigger wire into the shock sensor (which came with the alarm and has a port to plug it into the brain). Instead I want to use the (+) door trigger wire. Is there a way to do this?

using both neg and pos triggers at the same time isnt too smart. It might fry and damage the unit if both triggers were set off.

So then I should just tie each trigger to the negative door trigger? I will need to diode each sensor that goes to that door trigger plus diode door trigger side of the negative door trigger. The way I have my door trigger inputs wired is I have the wire ran to my dome light wire since opening any door turns the domelight on.
