I need advise on how to repair poor range with a factory installed remote in a 2006 chev impala, remote won't work unless within 10 feet of car. Warranty has run out and the dealer has not been able to repair it. this vehicle is loaded and also has onstar, everything works perfect, remote range is only problem. If anybody else had this problem please advise what I can do with it.

Have you changed the battery in the remote?

What's your budget?

www.bypasskit.com offers a setup with a new antenna, and aftermarket remotes, with more range. There's an option for a two-way confirming remote as well.

I haven't seen/used one, but installation should be fairly easy, not nearly as complex as installing a full-on remote starter.

expected range on the oem fob 10-50'

it's not really an extra part, it's software and a new remote.

Always check the batteries with a digital volt meter to make sure they are good. Are both remotes working the same? One may be defective. If you have window tint on any windows the range will be reduced. Check the antenna connector on the front windshield. If you have had the windshield replaced the new ones don't contain the antenna for the keyless entry.

sparky, he's talking about the OEM Gm starter, the one that is just a firmware upgrade on the BCM
