i have never done an alarm/rs on an impala, but i have used plenty of idatalink modules. idatalink is very easy to use and very reliable. for your application, using the DLSL GM will do doorlocks, disarm factory alarm and trunk release all through data. This is the higher end version but there are ones that ONLY do transponder

There is specific firmware for the Impala. It is actually labeled "Impala" Make sure you are using this firmware because there is an issue with the Impala's and Monte Carlo's where the trunk is concerned.

yeap, also if you are purchasing online make sure that they can flash it with that firmware. If you purchase from the website it will be 70bucks and just make note that you need that specific firmware flashed with it.

if you plan to install more then by all means purchase the usb flasher. if not then ask if they can pre flash it for you. You can always purchase the unit and bring it to a local shop to have them flash it for a small fee.

I do plan on doing a lot more so I guess the 40 bucks for the usb flasher is worth getting, is idatalink made by autopage? Because it say in the manual the d2d from autopage will only work with idatalink, what if u got the wrong firmware can u reflash it or is it a 1 time deal?

iDatalink is it's own company but is co-owned by the same owner as Firstech ( Compustar ). They make modules for various companies so there will be instructions from other companies online. It can be flashed infinite times.

some vehicles with problems have their own firmware. Most will ahve a certain flash that is compatable iwth one or 2 cars, but other than that each car will have a special firmware for it.

Aahh ok so basically you don't have to have a bunch of stock, lets say if you have a mod. For gm u can flash it for a few different gm vehicles deppending on the firmware needed ,am I correct?

I think they are going more for vehicle coverage than reduced stock for the retailer.  Even with Bypasskit's XpressKits there are still 5 models you have to keep in stock just for remote starts.

I can't say I've had much experience with iDataLink, but Trilogix(Bypasskit) doesn't really seem to stick with one carmaker for a lot of their modules, they just look at which hardware will work and make a firmware for it.
