I have an Avantguard 5.1 installed in a 1996 toyota 4runner 5spd. My problem is the blackjax won't engage. It was working fine when i had my alarm set to start as an automatic and with rpm's but I've since set it up properly in manual mode and have it starting tachless. I reprogrammed the RPM manually after configuring everything with the wizard and made sure blackjax is on and nothing. I can't seem to figure out the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

hmmmmm... i am not familiar with this system... but my gut tells me that connecting tach may shed some light on the problem.... remote starts just flat out work better most times with a tach connected... give it a try.. otherwise.. contact a dealer or tech support for further assistance.. good luck

Just out of curiousity, why did you have it setup in auto mode to begin with?

Also, why did you change it to tachless? Were you having problems?

I dont have a 5.1 install manual on hand, but Avantguards usually ground the GREEN/ black wire (I am doing the color by memory) for automatic transmission mode.  If you changed it to manual, and still have the wire grounded, it could cause havoc.  When you say you changed it to manual, do you mean that you simply cut the wire and taped it up?

I would start by going back to your original configruation of manual mode and tach to see if your blackjax comes back.  If so, then change JUST to tachless to see if blackjax still works. If not, then you know it doesnt like tachless mode. If still ok, try the manual mode to see how that goes.

DISCLAIMER:

If this was installed by a shop, it's a lifetime warranty and messing with the wiring could void it. Take it back to them if blackjax does not work under your original configuration.

Good luck!
