HI guys I have a 97 chevy pickup siverado and a hornet remote started and alarm combo. When I hit the start button on my truck's remote it does not start however I hear the fuel injecter and all the lights and ACC comes on just does not crank. I had this system in the truck since 1999 (i know its old :)HAHA) and it was working fine but then about a year ago it just died all the sudden. so can it be some sort of resister in my start wire that went bad or what can it be? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Check the starter out put to the starter wire and see if it's outputting 12 volts when starting.

You mean the starter output wire on the main unit (the brain or remote starter). and I presume that it will only be 12 volts when it is attemting to start?

Yes, it will have 12 volts when the RS cranks. Check before and after the anti-grind starter ( if installed)

popeye, I'm also going to guess that your system has 4 external relays for the remote start? If that's the case you could try swapping the starter relay with the accessory one and see if it works - if it does just replace the relay.

I think I do have 3 or 4 relays all taped together. Is it just the regular relay kinda like the with the SPDT and SPST Automotive Relays Like this. I haven't got to it yet just so busy writing a program, but I will try to tackle it tommorow.

Exactly that type...they would probably not be taped, but there would be 4 harness connectors for them which lock together. I'm not sure when DEI originally started making their remote starts like that but I know they were still making those in late 2002, so I'd assume yours is a similar design.

the starter wire is the purple wire.

OK I tested the purple wire and there is power there  the whole time what does that mean?

Accually sorry guys there are 2 purple wires one is about 18AWG and the ohter is about 16 or thicker and that is the starter wire I persume. That wire is coming in from the ignition colum or sterring colum and it has no power at start up. So I wonder if there is a resitor or something else that might of got burnt out because that what I think it is something burnt out all the wires are soldered to where thire supose to be. I was going to post a pic but I dont know what to post of.

Have you tried swapping the accessory relay(the one with the orange wires going to it) with the starter relay(purple wires)?

Also, is there a flashing "security" or "theft system" light?

Yeah there were 3 relays swaped all those and there is another one that is soldered on to the wires but I can hear that and also feel it clicking so That one should be good right, "If a relay clicks is it OK?"

OK guys I checked the purple wire and there is no power going to it. what should I do now is it a burn out fuse or something else? I checked 3 out of 4 relays and they were fine the forth one was making a clicking sound.

On the connector side of that relay where you checked for power, check the heavy gauge red wire for power as well. If the large red wire has power, replace the relay. If it doesn't have power, look for a blown fuse; however as you've stated that the ignition and accessory circuits are working properly I think the relay is probably the source of your problem.

Guys I figured it out, I got so fed up of testing relays and fuses I decided to test the entire system so I ripped open the dash and the steering colum and and checked all the wires and sure enough one of the wires in the steering colum broke off the solder so I soldered it back and the truck started. It's the red wire near the end

Thanks to everyone here that helped me try to  figure it out.

Thanks
