Does anyone have any good knowledge of the new Altima push button start...ive seen it in action and love the way it works as it lights up and goes through the ign, acc, start cycle with the push of a single button. The idea is to incorporate one of these into the console of my 94 chevy pickup. Ive installed other push button starts before but i want to completely do away with using a key or other toggle switches alltogether and use the Altima button. So the point of my question...anyone have any knowledge or advice to share?

It is possible to do - I've done it.

The Altima button can be purchased at a dealership for around $35.  It is just the button.

I built a custom circuit to interface with all the LEDs and the start/stop button.

As of right now it still needs a key.  My goal is to develop an RFID interface that will do all the ignition switching by itself.  Then, the last hurdle is getting past the mechanical steering wheel lock.

Thanks KP that helps a lil bit considering i dont know all the tech speak u use but it looks awesome with the blue Led's and stuff...i was thinking though...can u get the plug and module (assuming its like that) from the dealer that the button runs to and play with that to see how it interfaces on the altima?

I don't want to say no, but I wouldn't want to try it.  The pushbutton system is basically wired in to the entire car.  You would need to buy a BCM, an ECU, and all the antennas (I think there are 5 or so) to make the system work.  You would then have to wire them all up and somehow make the canbus work properly so the BCM and ECU would communicate.  The ECU would have to be wired to run the motor, as that is how the pushbutton start system works.  I don't see that being very feasable, but it could be possible.

go to bypasskit.com and look up the model XK811 it intergrates to entire system one module does it all try it  saves lots of install`time of a RS unit does RS, keyless, and bypass

I was doing some thinking and was wondering if the Altima button could be hooked to a "momentary to latched on/off" relay setup for the IGN and ACC wires and a "momentary" relay setup for the START wire...this way, when you push the button, the ACC and IGN wires latch on and the START wire gets a momentary pulse and the truck starts...when you push the button again, the ACC and IGN wires latch off and it kills the truck...is this thinking pattern somewhat correct or am i way off here?

That might work if you just want "start" and "stop".  You won't be able to cycle through different ignition/acc/start patterns.  You should also incorporate some sort of "engine running" signal in to the mix to insure that the module won't try to crank the starter if the motor is already running (ie get out of sync).

You will also need to bypass the mechanical steering wheel lock to get away from needing a key and you should incorporate some sort of added security to prevent people from driving off with the truck.

It might be easier to get the button to trigger a remote start system for everyday starting. This will take care of timing the ignition on and the crank time. The RS could be solely for this and not have any shutdown connections(like brake and hood trigger). The trick will be to get it to stay running after it times out....

Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to run 2 relays for the ACC and IGN settings and have the system cycle thru the options.

IE once pushed excite Acc relay and led on switch, second push IGN & ACC relay and led, third push off. Push and hold for 1 sec would start provided brake (or perhaps clutch for manual and Neutral Cutout for auto so car can be restated while rolling as a fail safe.) switch is depressed and also off with a neg lock signal.

I also like the acc idea being triggered by rfid tag. The system I would like to put this into is a car with no steering lock and running no keys.

One more thought would be an input for a LED output on an alarm to run to the lock led on the switch

Anything is possible if you have the time and knowledge to build it!

By itself, though, the Altima button only has one set of momentary switch contacts and individual (-) inputs for each LED and one for the backlight.  As mentioned above, you'll need to design a control system if you want the Altima button to do anything fancy.

KPierson, you said you made a custom circuit? I looked at your posts about it and it looks pretty legit. Have you worked all the bugs out for it to where you could make one for someone else? If so I'd be interested in getting ahold of one.
