Hey guys,

Within the last 8 months i had a Compustar Remote start installed in my girlfriends 2008 Subaru Legacy. If she starts the car after having locked it using factory remote the horn will beep until the compustar disarms the factory alarm and starts the car automatically. The horn beep usually lasts for about 1 second.

Ive been digging around and i found a link to a OLD compustar installer user manual that discussed a setting in one of the menus that "unlocks" the car doors prior to starting as to disarm factory alarm. I think that is on the right track but im unsure how to go about this.

getting her to ONLY use the compustar remote has been fruitless.

Im semi familiar with the compustar units and their programming using the remote and menus because ive had one in my explorer for at least 7 years that needs occasional attention.

The transmitter she is using is the 2W900FMR (3000)

Is there more recent manual, or do you guys have advice on how to stop the horn beeping prior to remote auto starts?

thanks for your help

Kevin

Does the horn honk ONLY after remote start or does it also do it when you lock and unlock the doors ?

Sounds like the installer didn't bypass the OEM alarm properly or wired it to the wrong wire on the Compustar. Having the doors unlock prior to remote start will not work unless the OEM DISARM wire is properly hooked up becayse the Subaru uses a separate wire to OEM ALARM DISARM.

I think what you mean by horn honking is that your factory alarm is alerting. It seems like you want to program unlock before and lock after?

Why dont you call Firstech and they will walk you through this. 888-820-3690

thanks very much guys.
you're correct, the remote start is setting off the factory alarm for the split second until the computer tells the car the right key is in the ignition and its starting by means of the compustar...

all i care is that the horn doesnt beep for auto starts after locking it with the factory remote. If you make it a two step process, unlock with compustar remote, then remote start, OR lock and unlock only with compustar remote the horn will never beep during the second before the remote start. however getting my other half to follow 'rules',(especially while she rushes to hurry out the door) has been a losing battle.

i was hoping to solve this 'in house'. and i thought i may have been onto something by finding that older manual that stated the menu item existed 'unlock prior to autostart', i think that would resolve this for sure.

I have used this particular installer for about 15 years, and over the past 2 years he hasnt instilled much faith in me... :-/

I wont hesitate to go back to the installer and tell them what jeff said, but like my explorer, if i can plug away at this unit and tweek it just right myself, id be more comfortable.

Try this:

1. Arm Subaru alarm, leave car alone for ta least 30 seconds until the alarm gets fully armed.

2. Insert key into driver's door, turn once to "unlock" position.

3. Activate remote start. Does it beep now? probably not, right?

Anyway, it's either:

A. Installer didn't connect the factory disarm wire from the Compustar to the (yellow/red) disarm wire on the Subaru.

or,

B. He did connect it, but somehow or another, the timing isn't right.

or,

C. He DID for whatever reason split the Compustar's unlock output with two diodes, then connect those two to the car's disarm wire AND the car's unlock wire.......but failed to connect the Compustar's disarm wire at all.

I'm thinking it's C, because you did say that the car successfully disarms if you use the Compustar to unlock, right?

Hi Chris,
Arming the alarm, then unlocking with key, then auto starting, the horn will not beep.

I will try firstech over the phone, see if they have any setting advice i can do from the remote under the installer menu. But from the sounds of what you guys are saying, it seems like the installers need to check, or possibly re-wire a few leads at the unit itself.
